Putting this out there for some newbie rock tumblers.
Have seen here and on the RTH Facebook page posts from those relatively new to tumbling. The loss of rock density after rough stage surprises many.
Many are wondering what to do. They often do not want to just save everything and start another load at rough.
I have 2, duel 3lb barrel tumblers. Both of these can accommodate a 1 lb. barrel.
I will often move materials from a 3 lb. to the 1 lb. at times. This is working great for me.
Sometimes, depending on if I am already using the 1 pounder, will just add lots of filler, aka, ceramics, pellets and pea gravel to a 3 lb. barrel. This results in about a 60% filler/water/grit-polish to 40% rocks.
My duelies are a Chicago Electric and a Thumbler. Am no longer running my 1970 era, childhood 1 lb tumbler, just using the barrel.
It all depends on the amount of patience a person has. I have held some rocks in a water bag for months, waiting until I have enough similar ones to put into the next stage.
If anyone with more modern day experience than me wants to chime in, it would be great.
