There is a gentleman up in Northern Russia that has a U-Tube channel called Hot fishing / cool fishing and he sometimes does evaluations on equipment he receives for field testing. I subscribe to his channel but have to use the translation feature on his videos because they are in Russian. About a month ago I watched one of his videos and it appeared that he was having a drawing to celebrate his 500 thousand subscribers. I comment once in a while and he always answers back. I posted a comment saying it was very nice of him to take the time to organize and hold a drawing for his subscribers and told him I really enjoyed seeing the lures and tackle he was using over in the Siberia area to catch the same specie of Fish we have over here in North America, Yellow Perch and Northern Pike. I said I will try to use the same lures over here this summer and the ones I can not buy I will make myself because I manufacture lures as a business. One of his advertisers is a custom knife maker and they gave him 5 knives for his drawing. There were several other manufactures that donated prizes including LED Flashlights and one that was a large custom Diamond jewelry company. The Diamond sales people gave him 2 custom rings, one for himself and one for his drawing and they are both identical. There might be a problem with the shipping overseas from his remote area and wondered if anyone had any ideas on that because he liked my comment thanking him for the drawing and showing me the novel ways he goes about catching the same specie of fish I go after. I didn't realize I was entering the drawing by commenting on that video . I won the Diamond ring ! The man speaks broken English , but well enough to understand and if there might be a glitch in shipping overseas from that remote area I would like to give him a heads up before we hit a snag somewhere along the way.
I would normally suspect a scam but he has been working on his drawing for a couple months while giving lip service to all manufactures that donated to the cause. No money mentioned , the only request was send me your mailing address.
Double address label, one in Russian and a second in English ?

I dunno- it just doesn't sound very spammish- I would expect a bigger hook. He's only asking for shipping, right? You should be able to figure that out online. I don't expect it would be too much. But, I have a trusting nature.

Not asking for shipping or anything other than my shipping address. He lives in a remote area similar to our Inuit villages in Alaska. You could check out his channel HOT FISHING / COOL FISHING the video he made in the neighboring Fish market is real interesting , you would get a grin from it but you need to use Russian translation on U-Tube to get an idea of what is going on. I think there are several regional dialects spoken in Russia and his comes thru translation fairly broken. Any of you that ice fish should check the videos he is posting now, The videos of him and his kids and buddies set lining under the ice are a real hoot !

I watched him also-cant understand a word, but I love the pikes they are pulling out over there. Especially when he is ice-fishing
I read somewhere that there use to only be 20% of Russians who fished for recreation, now that number is higher and the fishing tourism has greatly increased. With social media those guys are showing off ; )
It does make me wonder now that some of the bans have been lifted how long it will take for them to start depleting numbers and size of the pike.
It would be awesome though to go there and fish for Amur Pike
Speaking of lures-Savage Gear is amazing for pulling pikes & muskies!
I also recommend following Sean Wit's channel White label Fishing
I would have no idea ohw to go about sending a label in Russian-maybe call the post office and ask if they have a suggestion ?

When I ship to Japan or other places that do not speak English I always put a double label on the package. The label in English gets the parcel through customs on this ens and then the translated label in Japanese or whatever gets the parcel through customs on the other end. It also makes it possible for the postal workers to deliver it. I have never had any issues using this method. Every package has landed where it was intended to. Congratulations on your win and good luck! Best, Bill

I also usually double-label when the destination country uses a non-Latin alphabet. Interestingly, however, the labels coming FROM those places are usually just straight English, so their customs and/or post offices evidently have folks who can read multiple languages. That said, there are regions, and sometimes entire nations, where I won't ship as they are black holes for packages (only expensive courier services like DHL or FedEx, if available to those places, are reliable, and an English waybill on those is all that is required).

Not really Scott -- I'm learning from the experts. I've shipped overseas often but have never run into those problems. I'm taking notes here...

I think I will contact my new buddy over there and tell him to make the label in English and hope for the best, maybe he won't have to fill out a form stating the contents. If he does, I will tell him to make it out for a metal sample. Not a complete fabrication, just vague enough that it won't draw a lot of unwelcome curiosity !
I HOPE !

If he does, I will tell him to make it out for a metal sample. Not a complete fabrication, just vague enough that it won't draw a lot of unwelcome curiosity ! I HOPE ! I am unfamiliar with shipping/receiving items from Russia. I send/receive items in Norway often. Items sent from Norway required inspection at local postal prior to sealing the box. A disclosure form had to be completed. When I sent items there, I had to complete a disclosure form, stating contents and value. Recipient had to pay a 25% import tariff. I could not insure items for value unless recipient was required to pay the tariff. This results in an increased cost for recipients. A $50.00 item quickly becomes a $80.00 item when shipping, tariff and insurance are included. I have never received anything diamond from Norway, but have received some other, spectacular items. I did the research and coached the sender on how to complete the form. Since she lives in Northern Norway, she was able to convince the contents of box were "just rocks", being sent to a good friend. It worked. For items I sent her, I had to state the value for insurance and she had to pay the import tariff. A lot depends on local postals and how they do things.

I don't know for sure but in Yakutia Siberia things may be a little lax as they are a small independent province up there. Might be able to get it through with metal sample for contents.
