Forbidden Planet was the "Star Wars" of the 1950's.

My all time favorite movie is At Play in the Fields of the Lord. Really makes you think and lots of great messages. Some really incredible footage and a great soundtrack. I have the movie on VHS. Tried watching it with a friend on Netflix but they did not include subtitles so I had to keep explaining what was being said. So if you watch it make sure it has the subtitles. And the movie is long, just over 3 hours.

I watch enough old movies that I turned a storage room into a home theater. I've enjoyed many of those mentioned. The ones I'd definitely want be marooned with on a desert island (along with a projector and solar power) include...
Dramas - The Lion in Winter - Schindler's List (maybe only once per year - emotionally draining) - Sunset Boulevard - All About Eve - The Last Emperor - The Grapes of Wrath - Citizen Kane - The Life of Pi - The African Queen - La Vie en Rose (aka, La Môme) - Dead Poets Society - Lincoln (with Day-Lewis) - Monsieur Verdoux - Hidden Figures
Comedy - The Great Race - A Mighty Wind - What's Up Doc - Pygmalion (with Leslie Howard) - The Kid (Chaplin) - The Navigator (Keaton) - Our Man in Havana - Florence Foster Jenkins
Science Fiction and Adventure - Star Wars 4-6 - Men in Black III - The Matrix I - The Day the Earth Stood Still - Signs - Star Trek (the reboot with Chris Pine) - Star Trek First Contact - The Fifth Element - Inception - LOTR trilogy - Raiders of the Lost Ark + The Last Crusade
Conflict - Ran - Saving Private Ryan (maybe only once per year - emotionally draining) - Das Boot - Apocalypse Now - Patton - The Pianist
Of course, if I had any sense, I would probably choose a boat with a Blu Ray giving navigation instructions.

The Bridge on the River Kwai The Great Escape The Magnificent Seven

Shindler's List The Third Man (I saw the Ferris wheel in Vienna this past Oct) Duck Soup ("gentlemen, we are fighting for the honor of this woman, which is more than she ever did") One flew over the Cukcoo's Nest (The World Series empty screen narration scene) Oh Brother where art Thou Harvey (the giant Rabbit with Jame Stewart) Big Trouble in Little China ("remember what Jack Burton always says") Escape from New York It's a Gift
A movie like Shindler's List needs to be paired with a Marx Brother's movie.

The Bridge on the River Kwai Anything with Alec Guinness is worth watching! I have a particular fondness for his old Rank Organization comedies. Duck Soup ("gentlemen, we are fighting for the honor of this woman, which is more than she ever did") How could I forget Duck Soup? So many great, rapid-fire lines. My favorite... - Firefly: Not that I care, but where is your husband?
- Madam Teasdale: Why... he's dead.
- Firefly: I'll bet he's just using that as an excuse.
- Madam Teasdale: I was with him to the very end.
- Firefly: No wonder he passed away.
- Madam Teasdale: I held him in my arms... and kissed him.
- Firefly: Oh I see - then, it was murder! Will you marry me? Did he leave you any money? Answer the second question first.
Then there is the perfect opener for any evening of old sci-fi... Not the movie itself, just the opener. From the first time I watched it, fell in love with the song, though my face quickly got tired of cringing through the rest of it. I suppose it might have been less horribly bad once audiences felt free to throw things and yell at the screen, but that wasn't done at first.

Almost any sci fi, but particularly BladeRunner, Dune (and the books gotta say) the 80's one, Battlestar Galactica (the new one), B5, Body Snatchers (with Donald Sutherland), Matrix, Gattaca (very good must see), Omega Man (Charlton Heston- though the one with Vincent Price is good, too) and too many more including a lot of the creature feature, Sunday afternoon 50's flicks.
Legend, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal and more for fantasy
Schindler's List, Dancer in the Dark, Pianist and a lot of other heavy movies.
And a mish-mash: Fiddler on the Roof, The Ten Commandments, Cleopatra, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and too may more. If my memory for titles were better, I'd have longer lists.
@rocks2dust- LOVE your list!

I just re-watched Soylent Green for the first time in 45 years. I had forgotten 99% of it. Timed to take place in 2022 - Edward G. Robinson's last movie. For all of Detective Thorn's life all there has been to eat was Soylent Yellow made out of soy beans, and Soylent Red made out of plankton. The company has just come out with Soylent Green. An early scene - buying food for a very rich man! An unusual murder. Stealing from a dead man. Catching a ride home with the Corinor's vehicle. Climbing the stairs. Sharing the loot! The eating scene, Detective Thorn's FIRST real food!

When I think 'favorite' I think of movies that I have watched multiple times and could easily watch again. I mean I loved Schindler's List - so powerful - and draining ... holy moley ... once was plenty lol
My top ten:
1. BladeRunner (original) 2. The Game 3. Good Will Hunting 4. Shawshank Redemption 5. The Green Mile 5. Goodfellas 6. The Outlaw Josey Wales 7. Men in Black 8. Apocalypse Now 9. Unforgiven 10.
I know I'm forgetting some...

"It's all in the reflexes" "Call me Snake" An under-rated actor in my book, I thought he deserved an Oscar for his performance in Miracle as the Coach of the US Olympic Hockey team. A wonderful performance. I watch this clip on YouTube, never gets old.

“I've been saying it so long to you, you just wouldn't listen. Every time you said 'Farm Boy do this' you thought I was answering 'As you wish' but that's only because you were hearing wrong. 'I love you' was what it was, but you never heard.”

Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile are two of my favorite all time movies. 'Course I'm a huge Stephen King fan since I read The Stand back in junior high. Most movies from his books are horrible, but those two are great. I don't really have a top ten movie list, but whenever Forrest Gump is on I watch it- same as the two movies above.

Looks good! It was pretty good. If you watch it let me know what you thought. Been awhile since I've seen it so I can't remember how good the acting was. But the premise...
