Been too busy to take pictures of this weeks batch of Mexican agate halves. I shot this quick video to show them. Due to the difficult clean outs on this style of tumble I switched things up a little. As usual I skipped stage one but this time they only tumbled in 120/220 then 500 AO. Two stages for a total of six days in the loto. This only works due to how smooth the saw cuts are.

Did you cut these by hand? Whenever I hand feed rocks through my trim saw, they don’t end up very smooth. I get impatient and start rotating them because it seems to cut them faster. Most rocks I cut by hand are Petoskey stones, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
I’m not sure what you’re going to do to top these. You’ve got everyone spoiled.

Those are beautiful and I love being able to see the shine move around on them in the video. There are too many beauties in this batch to pick a favorite!

I do cut them all by hand but I do not rotate them at all. I use a 303C blade and try to keep them as straight as possible. These are small though. A lot of them are about the size of a U.S. quarter. Like any rock they do leave a nub at the end of the cut but that just gets ground off on a diamond wheel before they go in the tumbler. Chuck

I’m not sure what you’re going to do to top these. You’ve got everyone spoiled. Still have some good ones left to tumble but I think the best ones have been done now. I sorted the remaining stock last weekend. I have 5 pounds cut up and ready, 8 pounds left to cut open and 7 pounds of cut in half rejects not worth tumbling. Chuck

Blinding shine there, burning man! Thanks Brian. I am still a bit amazed at the 6 day tumble results on this batch. Very little effort involved. Chuck

Very nice Chuck. Awesome shine. I’ve always done rotary so it’s hard for me to wrap my mind around only six days.
