I am looking at a quick outing to the Falcon Lake area. I know a good road to walk. A couple more collecting sites would be welcome.

Depending on how far you are willing to drive..... About 3hours north in Mason County, there is the Sequist Ranch. its a pay to dig site where you can get tormaline, topaz, and some awesome Flint.

We could talk our way into spending a day up that way, but don't know anything about the topaz and tourmaline hunting.

Not sure if jamesp has been in the Falcon Lake area. Tagging him here in the event he has some input.

Read the first sentence in the linked post Macros of Zapata Texas agates and jaspers . (posted on Feb 25, 2014 )
So Falcon Lake is near Zapata. Yeah, I'd say he's been there, more than once!
With captbob Rio Weirdos (posted on Dec 5, 2016)
Lastly, info on (just one of the shootings) on Falcon Lake Trouble on Falcon Lake - Texas (Shooting on Dec 6, 2016 )
Not to bring up bad stuff, just dredging up some old threads so you can gaze at the eye candy. Who's ready to go???

Thanks Jean rockpickerforever. I know he had been somewhere near there - just couldn't recall the specifics of his trip.

We could talk our way into spending a day up that way, but don't know anything about the topaz and tourmaline hunting. www.masontexastopaz.com/It's not hard at all, I have a hundred pounds of feldspar, flint and chert I pulled out of there in 2011. Most was found in stream beds and with all the floading they've had over the last year, there has got to be a ton of stuff uncovered. Diane Eames, local gemologist, will gladly help out with explanations on what to look for, she used to be in the same office as Ft Mason Real Estate. I found my biggest topaz on private property about 10 miles from the ranch. It's not uncommon to find worked flint, even in town. I found several pieces in my own back yard when I lived out there.
