Electricity went off here at 1:00 AM today. Thankfully the beeping from smoke/CM alarms woke me up.
First thing I did was use a flashlight to see to turn off rock tumbler. I know the tumbler needs a push to get started rolling the barrels after it has been turned off. Did not want it to burn out or start a fire when electric came back on.
The electric came back on within an hour, but I was too tired to go to utility room to turn tumbler back on.
Once it was light outside, I removed the barrels, wiped down the rollers and applied more oil. Let it run with one barrel for a while, which I had to push start. Then added the other barrel and had to push more. Watched for abut 10 minutes to make sure it was working.
Wind chills outside here were up to -30 this AM. Wind was blowing through my utility room, even though it is inside the house.
I was wearing my parka, snow pants over lined pants, pac boots, a lined hat and gloves.
Even though a tumbler may be fused for auto shut off, it is always a good idea to turn it off when the electricity goes off. This will prevent the motor from burning out and prevent a potential fire.

I like what TheRock (?) and I think others have done, created a control box for tumblers that requires a reset to restart if the power goes off. We aren't always home.

All is well. Did clean out yesterday. Have one barrel in 600 SIC and another in 120/220 SIC. After these are done, I will see how the weather is.
