It has been so un-Southern Nevada-like lately with weeks of solid rain and even snow to go with it. Finally the weather cleared up in the Desert Southwest, and we got a fun day to go out. We decided to head South of Vegas to some areas along both sides of the Colorado River, South of the Hoover Dam, to scout for shiny stones! You know, I kind of liken Rock Hunting to another hobby I love also; Fishing. Some times you don't catch the big one, or any at all. But just being outdoors on a great day is reward in itself! We got some hints that the 'ol Colorado had blown some Iron Oxide stained hard rock down stream, so we went searching. Our exploits even took us as far South as Laughlin today. Plus, we ended up finding enough shiny rocks to fill our pockets: Who knows, a couple of them look like they might tumble well. And had a lot of fun doing so too! There are vast places to hunt on both sides of this big 'ol river. And from what we saw, lots of rocks to keep every type of hound happy too. I know that these might not look like "Lake Superior, Lakers" that I keep hearing about. But I just know that it must be a lot of fun walking the shores of the Great Lakes too, to find those "Lakers". If anyone is interested in a location map, just shoot me a PM. -Bill

Thank you. It was more fun than anything else, and I can't wait to get back and spend more time at the best spots too. Looking over some of the smalls today, the 'ol river does a better job at Stage 1 than I currently do.

Makes me jealous. We still have a bit too much snow and mud around here to hound, but it's melting fast now.
