Some progress. Here are a couple group photos and a couple closeups of the favorites from a batch I took out this morning. (The couple pieces of rainbow were given to me;everything else self collected.) On this particular batch I burnished for a couple hours (Lot-o) with Ivory. Was not happy with the result, put them back in for another 12 hours of polish, then no burnish. Better result. Thanks for looking. ETA: The piece in the last photo has an ugly defect but I liked the play of light and the reflection of my fence (which looks like part of the stone!) Also, one can see the tip of the house across my back yard -in front of me when the photo was taken. Argh Obsidian:

Awesome batch. The one with the shooting stars in it is over the top. What the heck kind of obsidian is that ? Sunglass worthy

Great job my friend! I finally have the mahogany that you sent in 120/220 I only hope that it turns out half this nice!

Awesome batch. The one with the shooting stars in it is over the top. What the heck kind of obsidian is that ? Sunglass worthy Thanks, yeah that one is pretty exciting. Only one like it I've found. The star side is flat, so I should have the rest of it somewhere, but I can't seem to find it right now! Probably in my put-on-a-block pile. Here are a couple more closeups of that one. One with only the tendrils on the surface, one at a slightly different angle that also shows them under the surface, and the other side, which has a wisp of mahogany. It's mostly clear except for that wisp of mahogany. I'm thinking of grinding that off and repolishing. No idea whether it has a specific name. Any help appreciated. Argh

I have no idea of what the name of that is, or even if there is a name, but it looks like when spaceships go to warp speed in the movies. Therefore, I'm calling it warp speed obsidian!

Therefore, I'm calling it warp speed obsidian! I've seen similar patterns from Glass Buttes called "Rainstorm" and "Hailstorm" - but I like your idea better! Make it so, Mr. LaForge.

Great looking batch, Eric. How cool is it that you were able to collect the stuff? How far did you have to travel to get to your spot?

Great looking batch, Eric. How cool is it that you were able to collect the stuff? How far did you have to travel to get to your spot? That's all from Glass Butte except the rainbow. No idea where it's from. Glass Butte is about 6 hours from me, but I go by it 4-5 times a year when I go see my folks.

Not being familiar with the stone, I had no idea that Obsidian could look so pretty!
I understand that they are a specialty stone, and might require different tumbling method if tumbled alone. With that respect, I think you did a great job getting them to shine.
