No ebooks, no online newspapers either.... Not the same, ! Nothing like getting lost in a great novel, go deep into a newspaper.. I do a lot of writing and it's also done with pen and paper in my journals and notebooks, got to love the feel and flow of the pen to paper.... One of my first books I ever read in school, as a whole -"Where The Red Fern Grows" Classic in my eyes, still read it once in awhile, just to bring back those lost moments in study hall reading away.... As an adult I usually would read non fiction, sometimes I would wonder off in the other direction though... Hahahaha ABSOLUTELY!

My secret in life ... I am, or was, an avid reader. I grew up in a strict old fashioned religion house with a highly erratic (violent drunk mostly) preacher father, and television and secular music were never allowed in the house. Consequently I read a LOT. I had the (almost) complete Louis L'amour collection and read every one probably six times - maybe more on the Sacketts books. There is zero doubt in my mind that reading everything I could get my hands on shaped me in every way. At the very least it was an escape that I could get away from the constant hypocrisy and drama that formed the core of my dad's existence. Now I wear readers... almost all the time unless I'm watching TV. I'm near sighted and have worn distance contact lenses as long as I can remember and so now when I'm reading, or cabbing, or phone or computer, I'm wearing readers. I can't see up close without them. I wear these 1.5 magnification safety readers that I order on Amazon. They are SO freakin comfortable. It used to embarrass Eva when I would wear them in public and such but I think she's gotten used to it.

A good author will take you on adventures & let you get away from reality for a little while. Why dont men ever go to the eye doctor for glasses? Probably time for some bi-focals. Instead y'all buy readers

Instead y'all buy readers I love to read and should make time one of these days to pick up a good book. Can't stand reading a book online it's not the same. And by the way I actually did go to the eye doctor a few years back and have multi-focal (not saying bifocal!) contacts. They helped me to be able to see small print better but they're not perfect. Just think multifocal and not bifocal and you'll be fine.

All depends on what we really want to do with it I probably need multi-focal too

I was a C - D student up to the 4th grade when I got glasses. WOW! I had no idea the rest of the class could see the blackboard. I thought it was just to save paper. I then read every book in the school library. The West Wind Stories, all of the Oz books by L. Frank Baum. Edgar Rice Burrows volumes, . . . In Jr High every western and Si-Fi book I could find. Then glasses became bi-focale, and at 35-40 they said I needed tri-focals. No Way!I found a copy of the Bates Method. I didn't need glasses for the next 35 years. I delight in books and websites about geology and the "natural world." Now, at 82 I need readers for small print.

I have more years behind me than I do ahead of me... Of course I would have a lot more time if I didn't discover that I'm in love with rocks. Oh you poor girl! Just get them, join the rest of us. It makes a huge difference, I couldn't even read a menu in a dark restaurant before I got mine. Although I can see my teeny tiny fairburns better with no glasses or contacts.

They work great for seeing everything except for things that are up close. I have to wear readers or I literally can't see my hands in front of my face with my lenses in.

Just giving ya a hard time. No worries. It actually pisses me off that I have to go every year or the prescription expires and Costco won't fill my contact lenses anymore My prescription hasn't changed in ten years! (that's a lie)

"The Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act (FCLCA) federally mandated that prescriptions expire after a minimum of one year. However, if a state in which an exam takes place has laws that require a validity period of longer than one year, the state’s mandate should then be followed."
In CA it is good for two years.

Well that sucks. Above what I had quoted earlier from the blog, they prefaced it saying:
"The validity of a contact lens prescription varies depending on the state in which it was written and individual eye health, but is generally between one to two years."
So they must think your eyes are worse than you do, and need more frequent checking? Was the prescription you had written by Costco, or another optometrist? That may matter. I suppose they can come up with any rules to fit their needs.
Every Rx I have ever had for corrective eyewear has been good for two years. But then, I don't wear contacts.
ETA - I have no idea why the link doesn't work, so here's the info:

Jean is right, it should be every two years. A lot of changes happened and tbh some opthamologist are hoping people dont know the laws.
Not sure why they are only making it valid for 1 year for you. More than likely it is your opthomolgist that is giving you a 1 year rx. I would ask him/her why.

(that's a lie) Tommy have you considered buying 2 yrs worth of contacts right away? I'm in the same boat, but my eyes don't hold a prescription that long. Just when it seems they've stabilized I need an adjustment.

R/X exams are time limited for one big reason, exams usually run about $40.00 . They have a captive audience and are gonna keep it that way ! Primary Dr's. want to see you every 2 to 4 months whether you have a problem or not. I told mine I would make an appointment if I had a problem and preferred to keep it that way , thank you for your concern !

It use to be where you had to get your first RX of contacts from your ophthalmologist and then after all the adjustments and whatever then you could get a copy of your rx and take it wherever you want. When they changed that law a lot of them did not disclose that to their patients and you were stuck with higher costs. Some to this day still try to tell you that you cant get your rx until you go through the 1 year with them. but, reimbursement for eye exams really isn't profitable (which is why a ton of stand along eye places have popped up? so they have to get their money somehow right and ophthalmology and dental patient rights isn't something that most people look into compared to medical

I don't have vision coverage so I have to pay full boat and I have an astigmatism so they they charge extra. What makes it even worse is my ophthalmologist is down in San Jose where I used to work and which is now a good 1.5 hours away from us now. I've tried to switch to a local office and they *insist* that they have start over and go through the whole astigmatism fitting procedure... Pardon my french but all I need is an effing prescription to CONTINUE WHAT I'M ALREADY EFFING DOING! ... grrr... to switch to a local office is going to run me upwards of $300 ... so I drive the three hour round trip so I can pay $90 instead. They gotcha by the neets.
