Al, Thanks for giving me the link to check these out. You did an amazing job! Can I ask how long you tumbled each stage and what grit you used? Jsson These were done in rotary through 1000AO. 60/90- some were only in 5-7 days, some of the larger/more difficult ones 3-4 weeks. 120/220 SC for a week. 500 SIC for a week. 1000AO for a week. Then on to the vibe with AO polish for 4 days, after 2 days the polish was pretty much what you see and any improvement was minimal to the naked eye. Your experience may differ, don't be afraid to experiment. While I do like theories and reasoning behind why different people do what they do, I skip the posts about specific recipes as half the fun for me is figuring it out myself. I'm also doing this with my son so I like that he can see sometimes things do not turn out how we expected and you have to figure out what went wrong. Al

jasonshort I forgot to mention that TheRock has a more current thread (Snow Flake Obsidian 7.1.2019) with Obsidian you can look at. His Obsidian has more snow than the Alps. Al

I had heard that Obsidian was difficult. I haven't found one yet to know. But you made it look easy with the results that you ended up with. Super material too. I really like the big, extra flaky one in the middle of the first shot.

Is it better to use ceramic or plastic pellets mixed with obsidian in a rotary?

Is it better to use ceramic or plastic pellets mixed with obsidian in a rotary? That will depend on who you ask. For me, I use ceramics pretty much exclusively. Others are of the opinion that plastic pellets would be the safer bet. There are people who use smaller stones such as aquarium gravel for filler as well. In my opinion it is much more important that a good protective slurry is developed than what is used as filler. Al
