Greetings! I'm Julia, and I live in the small town of Manistee, Michigan, right on the shores of Lake Michigan. I'm very new to the hobby, but have been collecting rocks haphazardly most of my life. I recently purchased a Thumler's Model B and have tumbled my first batch of Granite collected from the shoreline. I'm really looking forward to having a knowledgeable group of peers to help me with my *many* questions!

Hi, Julia, and welcome from California. I'm not a tumbler, but there are many tumbling experts here.

Hi Julia. Welcome to the forum. I'm from Alpena. My first batch of rocks was also granite. Since then, I've learned that there are better rocks to tumble. Banded chert tumbles really well and there's a plentiful supply in the little town of Norwood. It's not super close to you, but if you're up that way, you might want to pick some up. Here's a thread about the stuff I tumbled. Of course there are many other rocks in Lake Michigan that will tumble well too.

Welcome to RTH from Virginia! I, too, am a new tumbler. After 20 years combined lapidary experience, I finally ordered my first tumbler. I know I'll get lots of help here from the best tumblers in the world.

Welcome to RTH. I live down state but have a cabin in the Upper Peninsula. Most of my hounding is on the Lake Huron side so it will be fun to see what your finding over on Lake Michigan.
