Hello, I'm a stay at home mom of 2 girls 18 with Autism 16 with migraines and wife to a Veteran. We live in Yakima Washington with 2 dogs a 3 year old Shiba Inu and 5 year old German Shepherd. I have had a love for rocks since I was little. Now I'm almost 40 still love rocks. I have 2 glass cases full plus our coffee table is covered. Every time we travel I drag my family into a rock shop. We go to Seattle every 3 months for my daughter's migraine headaches and to the Portland Oregon Veterans Hospital every 6 months for my husbands post brain tumor checkups.
I have many hobbies quilting being my second biggest next to rocks. My dad did a little tumbling when I was little don't remember him completing any tho. I only recently began tumbling. Bought my first tumbler from Habor Freight last fall then weather got cold couldn't use it. Funds are tight buy what we can afford. 1 barrel is for polishing only. Rock bug bit hard had to buy a second couple weeks ago. So far I've made sea glass from scrap stained glass and have Oregon Opal from Butte Oregon a friend gave me. The opal was found in a home a friend of hers parents bought. Original owners must have made jewelry or something the pieces are small. Its teaching me the basics without spending a lot on rough.
Here we are really limited with sources for supplies. I buy from locally owned shops when we travel. I'm reluctant to buy online for a few reasons one been warned there's quality grit there's bad grit, second it gets pricey especially with shipping costs.
Sorry for the long intro. Thanks for sticking through to the end.

Welcome from a fellow Washingtonian! The Pacific Northwest is a great place to be if you're a rockhound.

Welcome from NY. There are some very good online vendors who make efforts to keep their shipping costs down. Check out the "Vendor Reviews and Advice" section.
