I'm really not sure. Some info would be helpful. Where did you find it? Dry pix. Approx hardness. Size. Lots of little things would help.

It does not scratch easily with my small steel screwdriver. Size: It weighs 3 lbs, almost as big as my hand... about 3”x3”x5” Thanks again for looking. And if it’s just pretty trash let me know that too, I can still bust it up and try to polish it.

It seems like a jasper type rock, no quartz in it, and not a sandstone.

Looks like what I would call a jasp/agate . Should take a very nice shine . Want more ? Tons of it around here , have a couple hundred pounder sitting by my garage . They come in a lot of different color variations .

It’s just a start. Like so many of my projects. With kids it’s all about what can you knock out in 20 minutes. Lol

As I posted in the newb thread, my daughter and I are just starting out with tumbling. The other day I was just leaving a site, happened to open my work van door at the end of the drive, and found this rock in a wash that was there. Didn’t dig it out right away, but went back with the family yesterday and we got it. I really appreciate anyone taking the time to help me ID it. Here it is, photos taken wet. this is a very rare find and will require special tumbling procedure, what you are going to want to do is coat that thing in a churned distillate of bovine lactate. carefully distribute about 1/2 teaspoon of 60gr NaCl(sodium chloride) then wrap it in a protective aluminum sheathing and tumble very slowly on your BBQ pit at about 2-4 RPH for an hour.

The devious way of telling me how to BBQ the roast rock had me laughing. Reminded me of this:

it looks like a 'tater, I don't think you could boil it or mash it, but you might stick it in a stew. Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful looking petrified bu'tada
