Hi everyone! I am from South Dakota, but love to vacation in Duluth, MN. I went up there this last September intending on finding sea glass, but instead became enchanted with rocks. I now look for rocks EVERYWHERE! Landscaping, riverbanks, fields, gravel roads - you name it. I have a ton of rocks now to polish, but I am getting a little disenchanted with the polishing process. I don't care how long it takes, but I don't think the results are that good. I am using 2 of the National Geographic professional tumblers, but I have read those are not the best. If anyone has any recommendations on the best tumblers, please share. I am looking forward to sharing my adventures and reading about everyone else's. Peace!

Welcome from Northern Arizona!
Head on over to the tumbling board. There are lots of discussions on tumblers that should be helpful.

Welcome to the forum. The Nat Geo tumblers have their downfalls. Head on over to the Tumbling area with your direct questions. We'll get you set straight.

Hi and welcome from Mn. I myself am quite fond of the lady and her generosity in washing up rocks to look through
Parts of SD have some amazing rocks as well and you also have The Rock Shed to supply all of your tumbling needs.
Read through the tumbling threads and you'll have answers to most any question you can think of.
I will say to answer your above ?-start looking at Lortone tumblers ; )

Welcome from Virginia! You've come to the right place for help with tumbling. Our archives are amazing, too. The search box works pretty well.

Welcome from NW Nebraska. I spend a lot of time hounding in SD- look up Fairburn and Tee Pee agates...I guarantee you'll be hooked! Actually, I just went to Rapid City last weekend and hit the Fairburn area on the way there. I am pretty sure I found 2 Fairburn agates, plus a ton of Quartz. I have never heard of the Tee Pee agates - where does those hide? Thanks!

The Tee Pees are up around the Custer area and are way easier to find- pm me sometime and I'll tell you a spot.

I'm totally impressed that someone here would share a (potentially) secret spot without hesitation. All I say is this: If you are willing to share a secret spot to someone else here on RTH, then that's great. Kudos to you. But, since your posts in the general area are subject to Google searches, I'd limit any sharing of specific spots to PMs.

Welcome from Texas! Its amazing how addicting rocks can become! As for tumbling, my very best advice would be to seriously look into vibratory tumblers such as Lot O tumbler or the uv10. Honestly, vibrators tumblers are a game changer when comes to tumbling rocks. You still will need the rotary for rounding the rocks but stages 2-polish done in vibe. Shortens overall time by literally weeks, saves on grit costs and shines like no other.

Besides, it's not too secret- you can see it from the highway. 😀 But I will definitely keep that in mind...
