Howdy guys I want to bore this hole out from ½” to 5/8” Not that big of a difference & the metal is fairly soft In & out Yet’ the mohs' doesn’t have a drill press. A couple other foreseen problems Can ‘steady eddie' be free hand enough to drill the hole ha How can I secure the piece ? How to Center the bit? And plenty of other boring problems Let’s liven this place up Any suggestions ? m hstly

A “reamer” would be a great solution. Otherwise I have had good luck with the stepped bits, just feed in slow and careful and you will get a centered hole.

Success the object of enlarging the lap plate arbor was so that it could be mounted vertically on my tile saw its working real well being able to have the heart half lie flat on a platen will make touch up profiling easier I’ll probably make more modifications But this is quick inexpensive sweet grind set up For the rock Yard grindmohs ... think it going to lots of potential as anyone else done something similar ?

I've been reaming out 5/8 inch hole saw blades to 1 inch to work on my Genie trim saw. Drill with a stone conical bit. I spray wd40 on the bit as I grind. I put the blade over an old genie wheel and try to hold the drill square.

Sounds like an innovative and interesting process ya got going on there stardiadude
1” arbor is pretty big
On my 8”expando that arbor hole in the wheel is n 11/2” I had to bush it down to ¾” for my Lortone spindle That was project I’ll get some pictures of that tomorrow or sooner...

Glad it worked for you mohs! I never really thought bout it but the smaller step on the bit would help to keep it centered while the 5/8 or next size is drilling. Makes sense.

I'm so glad you mentioned it Its been a long time since I used one i forgit
wasn't really sure how I was going to about it
so it made my task seamless and think the vertical lap idea is going to work well
thanks !

I bought a stepdown bit like you pictured from Harbor Freight and it was junk. It wore out quickly. I went to a hardware store looking for better quality but the cost was more than I wanted to spend. I bought an inexpensive conical grinder and it works just fine on blades. I bought a steel core 80 grit 8 inch wheel from Jadecarver that was a hair to small for my arbor. It would best be fixed at a machine shop so I put it aside. Some non Diamond Pacific wheels that are plastic core can be a little to tight for my Genie Arbor and the conical grinder works on those also.
I don't know why the Genie trim saw has a one inch arbor. Most eight inch blades are 5/8. A 5/8 hole costs about 40% less than a one inch and the choices of blade are restricted. I buy 5/x8 mk303 blades from Amazon and enlarge them. I go through a lot of blades since the saw is hand feed and water cooled. I will use my 14 inch mk301 for any rock or slab to split. That blade lasts a long time using oil and autofeed.

Ya see I stole the hood rod from my Celicia because the Infinti didn’t have a hood rod. Does have a nice roof though Poor boys hope it rollicking smmmooooothhhhh,,,, m
