good question Rich
main water line most likely 70 year old corroded pipe for sure
We were notified by SRP a week ago that we had significant leak Indeed it was
the bill was 350 bucks Where its normally 50
Tom figures that it was leaking a gallon an hour.
So now the leak as slowed considerably
I just checked the meter
its reading: 81738 earlier at 10 am the meter read: 81728 4 hour difference
not sure if any water was used I just got back so Tom might have used water
but the leak is steadily slower yet constant it seems….
Thanks!

Something’s rotten in Denmark, Ed . . . or Phoenix.
A gallon an hour would be 720 gallons a month. On my water bill, that would cost me $4.23.
Actual rate is $4.234 per hundred cubic feet, which is 748 gallons.

Isolate sections as much as you can. Like the section under ground. If meter spins when that section is pressured it’s bad, run pex above ground somewhere. If meter keeps spinning when valves off, the meter is bad. Any suspicious green grass around?

I’d have to leak over 53,000 gallons in a month, Ed, to bump my water bill three hundred bucks.
That’s about 74 gallons an hour!
Like I said . . . Denmark.

A large leak won’t fix itself. Meter not spinning now? Really weird.

Yeah Rich the bill was that high and if it was leaking that sort of galleons you quoted then a flooded spot seems like it would be obvious
anyway I'm going to keep a watch on that meter the alley a little dangerous so I'll bring the Great Dane w/me

If you're sure the leak is somewhere between the meter and the house it may be more cost effective to just run a new connection and abandon the old. It depends on the distance and how much of it is under concrete or other obstructions. The entire run is most likely the same age so if one spot aged to the point of leaking you may spend a bunch of resources isolating and patching it only to have another spot start leaking six months from now.
Something to consider.

Something to consider. The plumbing line from the meter to the hole in the back yard had already been previously replaced. Its still possible the leak exist there-- but less likely, Anyway just wanted to remark JBe I really appreciate your commenting Ed just checked the meter @ 4 p.m 81743 2 hours previously @ 2 p.m 81738 net cubic feet usage = 00005 I think that fairly reasonable for this old house sort of any ideas?
