Thank you for your service to all Veterans. I wish Dh's job gave him the day off for it. Dh was in the Cold War sub force, as was my son (not during the Cold War, though).

I'm stuck in a moral paradox with this kind of situation. On one hand, I believe every employer should be required to give any veteran the day off with pay. On the other hand, those who were in the military served so those companies could basically have the freedom not to do so. My heart vastly goes with the prior, while my head the latter...

But, one can always wish.

Thank you and i appreciate all the others who have served and their spouses. Thank you for recognizing the spouse/family, too. As a Navy brat and 3 times the wife of a military man, I thank you. It's a very different kind of life with special hardships.

Happy Veteran's Day to all my brother and sisters out there who have sacrificed so much for the freedom of others. US Army, 82nd Airborne Air Force, Pope AFB. When I was down at Ft. Bragg I was working on the C-17 project and was "assigned" to Pope, AFB while working on the project. One of the MAJOR benefits to being assigned to Pope was being permitted to eat in the Air Force mess hall...it was 10 times better than the mess halls on Bragg! I hated going back to eating on Bragg once that assignment was over! That assignment lasted almost a year.

The only times I went to Bragg were the golf course and the bowling alley. It was pretty wild there during Vietnam. When troops rotated back, it took a while for them to adjust. There was a sergeant for the 82nd who use to spend a lot of time at the rec center at Pope where things were calm. I was there from 69-71 as a computer operator across the street from the C5 testing area.

Crazy weather. They would turn on the heat in the barracks and it would get hot. The would turn on the a/c and it would get cold. Some friends and I were at the movie theater at Pope. You could hear the rain and my friend realized he forgot to close the sun roof on his bug. My home area is relatively dry. Every place I went in the service was progressively more humid. Pope, Guam, TDY to the Philippines and a few hops to Bangkok. At Pope and Guam, lots of lightning and power outages. I was a computer operator and every time there was an outage or a spike, the jobs that were running needed to be restarted, sometimes over and over.....

amygdule and stardiamond - I'll agree with the weather creating issues down at Pope/Bragg! I went through a hurricane down there - the issue was the wind. Knocked limbs and trees down like crazy...that was some fun cleanup! The biggest weather issue I remember (besides the constant heat and humidity! LOL) was going through an "ice storm" down there. Growing up in South Dakota, cold weather was just something you dealt with...but an ice storm blanketed everything with a 1/4" of ice - which shut everything down!
