I just saw the announcement for the 2021 contest - Burris Creek material. They certainly don't make it easy on y'all do they? Burris Creek is in my experience mostly what I call a "dirty" jasper with a lots of hematite and quartz and pits and cracks. It would be nice if they focused on the brecciated agate/jasper that comes from there but I doubt it because it's not as common as the jasper. Please weigh in on your intentions to join this year? Has anyone sent in their money yet? This time of year always makes me wish we could do our own mega-contest but the WTC kind of dominates the entire year as rotary tumbling goes. I have always respected the WTC and don't want our members to have to chose loyalties ... thoughts? Opinions? Just in case anyone is interested in where the Burris Creek material originates here is a video log from the last time I was up there - hard to believe it's been almost four years The first few videos are from Stoney Creek in an area where it passes under Hwy 5. I believe that area got shut down as private property by an aggregate company shortly after this was made. The last handful of videos are from Burris Creek where it comes out of private property and ends at Stoney Creek less than a mile later. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/78168/video-stoney-burris-creek-videos

If we did a contest, it would be reasonable to start it in July and award it in June .

WTC is from Jan. to Aug. 15 awarded in Sept not Dec.
Fires in CA., and rona virus are the reasons contest ran longer in the year the last 2 years.

Hi all, I'm glad there is a thread about this contest. I just got a rock tumbler for christmas and I thought this contest might be a fun way to learn, it has a sort of "county fair contest" type of vibe. I just got my rocks today, here they are!

I just got my rocks today, here they are! Oh lordy, ... it's worse than I imagined! The last few years have really been a torture test - from the perspective of a non participator of course BTW, welcome to the forum and thanks for jumping in! Keep us updated on your progress.

if the RTH wants to do another tumbling contest in house i would be happy to supply the material Thank you Roy! I think I still have some of your material from three years ago when with your help we were trying to supply the Paradise club with contest material after the Camp fire burned the entire town down ... they ignored my efforts and went rhodonite but that's a whole other conversation I should have with my therapist if I had one. Anyway, I've moved since then and gave a pretty good bit of what I had left away on the board but I do believe there is a box of it left if I can find it.

The wide variety of patterns and colors in that batch has me excited--this looks very interesting. I have never even heard of Burris Creek jasper.

I have two strange pieces here, I'm puzzled by this material. It is very rough and looks granular, I hit a corner with a hammer and it did not make a conchoidal fracture, it crumbled/crushed pretty easily. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be?

Since you only need 5 to turn in for judging, throw 1 in the tumbler and hold the other out. It might help make a nice addition to your slurry. And if it grinds down and disappears you still have 1 for the shelf. Good luck.
