If you all get tired of all these pics I'm posting just say so, cause I love to take photos. Took out the tile saw again this morning and slabbed and split a whole bunch of agate nodules from the beds in Chihuahua. A few years ago I had contact with a dentist who did work down there and picked up lots of agate. I managed to really load up from him and the tile saw was a great excuse to cut up some of the smaller nodules for cabbing and tumbling. Little rascals are harder than tacks but that cheapo saw just hacked right through them.

You know, on the general board listing all of the separate boards, this folder reads "Tile saw vs. chihuahua"--I just had to look. Turns out it's rocks. Really pretty rocks. Not disappointed. Just surprised. matt
btw, mel you seem to have an outstanding collection of stuff. It's got to be taking up a significant amount of space at your place. But, man, is it ever sweet-looking stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Textiger: Yep, been avidly clooecting for over 45 years. My yard is pretty much full of rocks and I store more at the ranch. Cool thing about rocks though: they don't rot or decompose or anything except sink into the ground over the years, Heck, then I get to dig in my yard and go rock hunting right there where it's convenient *L*

Sabre- Nice looking stuff. Those little dudes are packed with color, variety and detail. Nice, very nice. What's the scale on those? Those almost rival Cher's Lakers. Do you just call them agate nodules, or is there a more specific name? Did you ever take a picture of your saw? If, not, I'd love to see a picture. NEVER, EVER, tire from taking picts. Keep 'em coming my good man, OH, hey, since you like taking photos.....how about some pictures of the outside of those dudes. I love to see what the "wrapping paper" looks like. Gaetz

Those are great looking and since I haven't used a saw, I'm curious about it. I have lots of agate nodules (most recently, from South Dakota that I just posted) and I tumble them just as I picked them up, except for too huge rocks which I hit with a low tech tool (rock hammer). They look pretty cool tumbled as-is. What would yours look like if they were tumbled uncut? Would the surface be nothing? I keep wondering whether my rocks would be better if I cut them.
BTW, your post gets the "Best Title" award!

OK. First of all sorry about the pic title. I'm a dog person myself and had no idea the title would be abbreviated *L*
Gaetz: Yes, those nodules from Chihuahua are all named after the locations of the beds in which they were found. The pictured lot contains Laguna, Coyamito, Casas Grandes, and Moctazuma Agates. The outsides are one of the main ways they can be identified as each variety has a different exterior. Coyamitos tend to be ranther smoothly rounded which the Lagunas are the ones that seem very irregular. Casas Grandes are irregular but basically blacks, whites, grays and purples inside. Brad Cross' book on the Agates of northern Mexico covers are this in detail. I'll take some exterior pics and post them since you're interested. The agate slices pictured are all quite small, less than 1 1/2".
For saw pics you can check stephan's posts. He has lots there. Home Depot's website has a pic with a pic and the specs too. It's the seven inch Workforce Tile saw.
Puppie: Except fot the Bean Agates from Chihuahua which show beautiful eyes and the Coyamitos and Moctazumas which have fairly smooth exteriors and tumble out smooth and shiny (though mainly just in white or carnelian colors) , most of these agates are way too rough on the outside for tumbling.
