My Son in Law graduated college yesterday only abut 20 years after he started. Has 20 years in Military. Is a Staff Sargent. Several deployments to Afghanistan.
His degree is in Engineering with a Minor in Geology. He has almost enough Geology credits for a double Major. Unfortunately, the Major was eliminated before he had the last few classes.
He has been working the past couple of years as an "Intern" for an Environmental Engineering firm.
Funny thing is that he did not tell my daughter he was taking online classes to finish his degree. She thought he was gaming or chatting/commenting online, when he was taking classes. She thought he was hired instead of an intern. He wanted to surprise her.
He is the proud Daddy of AJ, who will be 2 years old in a couple of weeks.
Wonderful that Daddy gets his degree about a week before AJ turns 2. AJ is becoming quite the engineer and is eager to learn how to put things together, troubleshoot on paths of things. He listens and learns. Then shows his "teacher" how he would do things. I always challenge AJ on what he thinks he should do. He usually figures it out.
Anyways, thanks for reading.

Congratulations! I can’t imagine how surprised and proud your daughter is right now. And extra kudos to your son-in-law for sheer perseverance!

Congratulations to the entire family! Amazing he was able to keep it a surprise for as long as he did. Thanks for sharing a very positive story - that started my day off right.

Congratulations to your SIL! I had a friend who got a bachelors one night class a semester for many years. Persistence pays off.

Congratulations. If he wants the geology degree see about schools that still offer the degree and transfer the credits. Then take the last couple of classes and get the degree. I did that with my engineering/math majors.

That is no small feat, congrats! I had an uncle who went to night school for eight years to get his business degree, always admired him for that. Looking back on it now though, I wonder if he just went to school for some peace and quiet- he had 10 kids.

Congrates! And thank him for his service! My Dad worked a full time job, a part time job and went to night school. We were all so proud when he graduated (I was around 8 when he finally finished school). I know what a strain it is on the family, and what a reward it is when it is accomplished!
