Well, it looks like we will have an empty nest... again. Hopefully, for good this time. My grandson is moving into his first apt on Sat and my granddaughter just moved into a temp apt for the summer off campus (she has a summer internship). After 2 months she moves into her permanent apt to finish out at W&M. She might be back, but I am hoping that my grandson is able to stand on his own two feet. He is challenged by autism, but can function pretty well. He has a job where he works on his own, which is a good fit for him.
My grandkids thought I would be lonely (silly children) so for Mother's Day they got me a digital frame that allows them to email pictures to it. When they whip out their phones for pictures of their sparkly new lives, they can send it right to my frame. The frame has a lot of functions and is already filling up. There is no limit, though. It is cloud based. www.skylightframe.com/
It will be weird not having them around and I will miss them and worry about them, but I'll be glad to be able to walk around in my underwear if I so choose. LOL!

Congrats, rockjunquie Tela! Enjoy the peace and quiet (and freedom). I hope it lasts! Me, too! I know my granddaughter will probably need a place once she graduates, but if I know her, she'll step right into a great job. I worry about my grandson, though. He had joined the Navy last year, but he witnessed a suicide and failed to revive the kid with CPR. It freaked him out so bad that he was sent to medical where they determined his autism, which was also independently verified once he was let out of the Navy. He is an awesome person, but he has some issues. We're here to help if he needs it, but he is very determined to make it on his own and has a very good paying job.

What a horrible thing to have to witness. It sounds like he'll be just fine, but it's good to know you guys are there as a safety net if he needs it.

Oh, poor guy... hopefully as he puts more experiences between himself and the awful one, it will get easier.

Hopefully the frame only "receives" pictures...and doesn't "take" any! LOL

I'll walk around in my underwear, and I don't care who sees it. That's just me. The empty nest is a strange occurrence, and it's a weird adjustment. Our (only child) son went to school when he was 17, so we've been empty nesters since then (2009). The change at home is certainly a weird dynamic, but all has been well. You'll enjoy your time alone, but you'll also miss the activity. It all balances out in the end.

Your grandson will be fine! My wife works with a lot of kids on the spectrum, and the ones that have the drive and determination will not be swayed from reaching their goals. (sound like anyone you know?) And Kudos to you for taking care of your grandkids! We were forced (no not forced but "required" to keep her out of Foster care) to raise our granddaughter for a little while (about a year) and it was very difficult when she left (but a very rejoiceful time as my son had FINALLY gotten clean and has remained so for going on 5 years now) but I still get to see her. My daughter (who is a hard working and wonderful person) will be missed if and when she moves out (she has been looking at buying a house for about a year now). But the thing I will miss the most is that she will take her dog, and him and I are pretty close.
