Today, when I was riding home, something weird happened. It’s hard to be sure, but by all appearances, water was falling from the sky. I did some research, and apparently this phenomenon is called “rain.” Evidently, if this gets out of hand, I may have to build something called an “ark.” This is where the advice comes in. 1. Lumber is really expensive right now, and I don’t have that much spare cash. However, if the world ends, maxing out my credit cards may not matter all that much. The other alternative is cutting my own wood, but I fear the neighbors may object if I start cutting down their trees, or the ones at the park. Again, if the world ends, probably not that big of a deal. Does anyone have experience with this? 2. The other problem is the cats. We have more than two, and I don’t want to pick favorites. The good news is, as Turkish vans, they are rumoured to have descended from the cats on the original ark, so they should be good swimmers. Any thoughts?
It doesn’t appear urgent yet, but I am keeping an eye on things….

Good thing he’s working outside, with adequate ventilation. Beryllium and chromium fumes from welding can be nasty. I’d hate to have to find respirators for that variety of faces. Plus, many might not appreciate being shaved, and tusks and trunks just have to interfere.

What did this “rain” look like? I got a feeling I may have seen it once, or maybe I was imagining it!

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here...
If the world is ENDING, why build an ark?

I believe I heard a contented sigh coming from the ground. All kidding aside, I can’t remember the last time we had measurable rainfall in October.

Sheesh… had I known I could summon a fire-season-ending storm with a simple build-an-ark joke, I would’ve done it years ago. A few more, and the drought should be history.
I think we’ve had nearly as much rain in the last 24 hours as we had the entire Spring. Seems like it, anyway… haven’t actually seen totals yet, but 6-10” were predicted.

The weather guessers are backing off on the amount of rain they said we'd get here in extreme SoCal from this storm. Earlier this morning on the news, they said .16 to .5 inches on the coast, maybe up to .75 inches inland. I'm okay with that, don't need a full year's worth in one day! But will wait and see what happens. It is predicted to start mid afternoon, with the heaviest amounts between 3 and 7 pm. Haven't checked on it lately, but how is Hurricane Rick progressing on the east coast, Rick? Some funky weather fer shure this year. The entire year has been a real clusterf**k.

rockpickerforever that hurricane earlier this year was the worst for us but by hurricane standards, fairly whimpy when it went over us. We haven't had too much rain here at all, just enough to keep everything green. We're close to the coast camping again and going to the docks in McClelanville Thursday to buy 50 lbs of fresh shrimp to put in the freezer.

We picked up some Carolina shrimp fresh from the ocean that morning. Mmmm Mmmm good!

I didn't realize your namesake hurricane happened earlier this year, doh! I hate when things are posted online without dates. It was actually on a weather site, they made it sound like it is happening right now, lol A buttload of shrimp sounds wonderful!

Evidently, if this gets out of hand, I may have to build something called an “ark.” Just remember that when laying your ark out, to use cubits based upon your arm. Foreign cubits may be longer or shorter. Mixing could result in unpredictable results.
