Unfortunately I need my phone for my business. If I didn't, I would have a flip phone like Vince.
I do not use my phone for any social media crap -- I rarely go on social media for anything. I don't listen to music, watch movies or videos on my phone. I will use Zoom or Face Time if I have to do virtual showings out of necessity. I don't use voice commands and I turn off the location tracking for everything except Maps, because on occasion I do use it to find a house in an area I'm not really familiar with. I'm disgusted I had to buy an iPhone, but I absolutely have to have a phone.
The learning curve sucks, too.
stephan it may be Big Business, but they are in bed with Big Brother big time. There appears to be a lover's quarrel going on at the moment, so maybe some change ahead? In any case, there's some stuff, where I don't care who knows. If they want to send me advertising, it's an annoyance, but also a waste of their time and money, since it's never worked on me. In fact, it's been known to backfire. If some company annoys me enough with ads, I will remember that, and deliberately opt for an alternative, if possible. At this point, tracking my physical whereabouts must get boring too: work, grocery store and home.

Sorry to hear you "had" to buy an iPhone.........Keeping up with Apple's constant so called "tech innovations" is not only a PITA, but expensive as well. At least some of your related cost's can be written off as business expenses..........but there is no way to re-coup from the hair you're pull out every time they throw away an app you just figured out how to use, and replaced with another that hasn't even been "beta" tested.....!.......That's Apple for ya....!

Or the real fun part, where something you thought about, but never spoke aloud, pops up later as an ad. Coincidence? Machine learning and AI? "They" don't need to microchip us, they already did, and managed to convince us to pay money to have it!

parfive. What would be the purpose of Amazon sneaking addresses and phone numbers into your contacts? I buy a lot from Amazon.

I didn't HAVE to, of course, but it was the best I could find for my money. I need a big phone so I can see what the heck I'm doing. I just found out from the ophthalmologist a couple of weeks ago that I have cataracts. I thought my eyesight was getting bad from old age. Nope - instead of 20/20 it's 20/25, but the cataracts are making me foggy. They're not bad enough to have removed yet.
My Moto Z Force when I bought it 5 or so years ago cost me $1,300. This one cost a little less, but then I did have to buy the cover, glass protector and a charger. You spend over a $1,000 and they don't even give you a freaking charger. Just a "lightning cable".
I only use apps used for my business for the most part, so that part doesn't worry me much. My E-key, MLS Pro, Showing Time, etc. will get updated, but not replaced.

parfive . What would be the purpose of Amazon sneaking addresses and phone numbers into your contacts? I buy a lot from Amazon. I couldn’t make any sense of it at the time, Pat, a few months ago. No one deals with Amazon via email, but it didn’t make any sense as a hack either. So you have me scratching my head again and it’s just slightly/remotely/barely possible that having these addresses (for order-update, shipment-tracking, etc) in the address book could prevent an Amazon email from ending up in the spam folder. So that drains the conjure & contrive lobe for now and the ol’ noggin ain’t itchy no mo’. : )

parfive. My c and c lobe is still itching. Are the numbers or emails for Amazon, or for the vendors? Did you call the numbers? Curious.

All the email addresses were at @amazon.com, Pat . One phone number Googled legit and the other looked bogus. I didn't write or call any of 'em before deleting. And fwiw, some of the order shipped from Amazon and some from a vendor.
