Some of you lucky ducks should be able to see quite a show tonight and tomorrow night.

We are at the southern-most reach for the predicted zone. But, the clouds and rain here will mean that even if it were visible, we couldn't see it.

Thanks for the reminder Robin! I'm a HUGE fan of C. W. McCall...and have been ever since I about wore out my dad's record when I was a kid. This is a great song by him Aurora Borealis - C. W. McCall

Total bummer. I would absolutely love to see it in person.

When I got home from work, I looked, but did not see any. The sky was filled with stars, so that was pretty.

I went to bed a little after 11:30 last night. Before I crashed, I went outside and looked...cloudy to the north. Woke up (and got up) at 4:30 this morning. Went outside and looked...cloudy to the north! Dangit! I swear every time there's some "celestial" event like an eclipse or the Northern Lights, it seems to be cloudy here!
Although it was cloudy, the northern sky...okay clouds...were lit up and did seem to have a green hew to them...so that was pretty cool. The southern sky was pitch black compared to the northern sky.

Nothing seen on a very clear night in Central WI. Other than an abundance of stars. This was when I got home from work at about 10:30 PM.

I have spent many nights watching the Northern Lights. Some in Canada, some in WI. Will always remember when my husband and I purchased a get away to Canada for his Mom and Step Dad. We went with them ion the fishing trip. His Mom, him and I stayed up almost all night so I could get some photos of Northern lights. Had my camera mounted on a tri-pod and night settings. I was able to get about 6 great photos. Unfortunately, they are on a dead computer, but I plan to try to get everything on that lap top recovered soon.

Unfortunately, they are on a dead computer, but I plan to try to get everything on that lap top recovered soon. If the hard drive is not too badly damaged, there is a good chance things can be recovered. For security reasons, when I give away old computers, I always pull the hard drives and crush them after getting what I want/can off of them. I have never had a complete drive failure over more than 30 years of "dead" computers.

I love the Northern lights and I've seen them a countless number of times. The best was when I was working nights at Red dog mine about 90 miles from Kotzebue Alaska above the Arctic circle. I'd been telling my boss that I had never really seen the Great Northern lights. Sure greens and whites and the common colors all the time but never the spectacular blues, pinks, oranges, etc. Well a few nights later we came outside from lunch to walk down to the large tent that was our work area. Every color of the rainbow was dancing across the sky. Twirling and swaying like one of those long ribbons that the dancers use. You couldn't help but stop and stare in awe at the wondrous beauty dancing above our heads. After about 15 minutes or so our boss finally said that we had to get to work we had stuff to accomplish that night. But it sure was a sight to behold. Now that I spend half of the year working in the Arctic oil fields the common colors of Northern lights just don't interest me as much anymore. We see the greens and whites so often. But every once in awhile you'll see some really nice ones or it'll just catch your eyes you're driving in the early morning.

Looks like most of the states missed out on a show. Too much science stuff but it boils down to the storm wasn't as strong as they thought. Which now make me not feel so bad for not wanting to get up at 1am to go look.

Had to be done. I can't lose my data.

Portable hard drives are relatively inexpensive. I saw a Seagate 2T one on sale this month in Costco's sale flyer. I think it was just a bit over $50.

If you have back up drives, spin them up for a minute every few months. When they sit idle, they go bad. Seriously.

North folks just say it does to make us south folks jealous. The photos of them reminds me of a giant green alien casting Radon star dust. "The aurora borealis gets its name from the mythical Roman goddess of the dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas." Sounds more like it is the name of a Russian dictator. this looks better It shows up in the southern sky after a couple of 6 packs of Irish beer.

We're just overly jealous of y'alls weather/climate...so we make this crap up just to make you want to migrate north...and be as miserable as we are during the winter! LOL
