This piece of flint was given to me a about 3 years ago. It is a ballast rock from the a location on the east coast. I was given several and this one stood out as being the most interesting with it's sculptured shape and the least damaged. It had one broken nob that I cut off. The only other non-tumbler modification I made was to the "snout" as is was a bit pitted so I smoothed it out on the 80 wheel. The piece was also covered in a white caliche(?) which wore off after two sessions in coarse. The remaining white is bits of color embedded in the flint. All tumbling was done in a Thumler's Model B including the Polish run which I left for 9 days. The picture may not show it well but the polish is a deep mirror finish. If I did not know better I would think it's one of Drummond Island Rocks tumbles!!. The dark black with deep brown color probably contributes to the mirror finish. I honestly did not notice the animal in the shape until after the 2nd coarse run. It's going in the cabinet as soon as I get a display base for it to stand up on. Awesome chunk of Flint! Beautiful shine on it as well, makes the light reflections look like bones in a game of Operation... buzz.
I think it deserves another picture when it get to the cabinet and on a base.

Beautiful job on that stone, Henry! I agree, you definitely got the Drummond Island Rocks polish on this piece. It does look like a seal. All you need is a little ball on it's nose!

Beautiful piece Henry! I think you're going to get everyone's seal of approval for this one! It's definitely a display piece! If you hadn't said it was flint, I would have bet almost anything that was obsidian!

That is really something special HankRocks / Henry. I totally agree with Son Of Beach , "that has a deep space look going on". Outstanding!

With the reflection from the shine it looks like a orca ready to leap out of the ocean! Great job on the polish!

I see a seal if I take the top right as the head, but if I take the bottom left as the head I see more of the front half of a shark/whale. Nice job!
