Lobsters, jumbo shrimp and garlic bread to end the year last night. Today we will start the year with a traditional Southern roast pork, Hoppin' Johns (black eye peas on rice), collard greens and corn bread. Let the festivities begin. What's your traditional first meal of this Happy New Year?

The same traditional meal. Though it is for good luck, which I don't seem to have, so I don't know why I bother. LOL!

We really don't have a NYD tradition, quite often it's been get ready to go back to work tomorrow after a week off day, and I don't watch much TV, so it was never a huge holiday to us. Today it will be experimental pork enchiladas using an adapted chicken recipe to finish off a pork shoulder U made up a couple days ago for burritos, so basically leftovers.

At some point in time, our traditional pizza bagels morphed into a traditional regular pizza. (Probably because I wasn't willing to 'sully' any of my precious NY-style bagels with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese and anything else is just a hard roll with a hole in the middle of it. )
Nothing special over the years for NYD. But, tonight we're going to try something my step-daughter left for us that she calls ,"Thanksgiving Pie". The only thing that I know for sure about it, is that it's made with Thanksgiving Dinner leftovers and there are mashed potatoes as the top layer.

Do you fry your pork chops in earl? LOL Accents are a funny, often hilarious thing...
Decades ago, I worked for a YMCA up in Red Bank NJ. At the time, I was the Head Lifeguard there and had hired a SYT whose family had moved up from Alabama. Her accent - for a teenager - was already incredibly thick. One Saturday morning, she came running out of the pool area, dripping wet. She ran up to me and asked me if I had a "pinnn" she could use. So, I reached over into my drawer and handed her a safety pin. She looked at me like I was a complete dolt and said, "Noooo! Notta pinnn! A pinnn! Y'know, to write with. Like a pinnncell!"
