Hello, all— I’m new to the forum but have been playing with rocks for years, mostly cutting and polishing larger slabs. I’ve been tumbling for about 6 months and have had mostly great success with my Diamond Pacific tumblers. I have a nice quantity of nuummite and was really hoping to tumble some smaller slabs to save a bit of time and work, but a few hours in on 60/90 is showing signs of pitting. Anyone have experience with this stone? Thanks for any guidance. Donna

Hey Donna. Welcome to the forum from South Dakota. There are a lot more experienced tumblers on the forum who might have better advice...but from my limited knowledge, pitting is a matter of the quality of the rough more than it is any issue with tumbling technique...

Welcome from Virginia!
I don't know about pitting but that is a rare and valuable stone. I'm curious to see how it tumbles. I have a slab, but I haven't cabbed any, yet.

Thank you both for your responses. I know the propensity for pitting is the metamorphic and crumbly nature of the matrix; I’m thinking of stabilizing everything with the very thin viscosity PaleoBond and trying again. You’ll definitely want to stabilize your piece before you start cabbing it, but the results are well worth it!

Just wanted to follow up on my nuummite issue . . . after digging through a few threads, I found the magic formula from Inga (I think)--more ceramic media, plus a small amount of psyllium. It has made all the difference! I've successfully tumbled mini slab pieces, and they are gorgeous!

Wow i give you credit for tumbling this material I have a a medium size piece of it and would in no way tumble it or even slab it. It's so rare and expensive Curious where you got material to tumble?

Hi, MsAli—
I got a good supply over a decade ago in Tucson. It stabilizes pretty well and polishes beautifully!

I do, but I'm having an issue with Cloudinary. I get to step 14 of the signup instructions and can't find the field that's being talked about . . . sigh. I'll keep trying.

I would say that if you have made it that far and you have an "unsigned" upload preset in place, save what you have and proceed to 17. the RTH profile settings. Incoming transformations are important to avoid unnecessary file storage and bandwidth but it's not critical in the early going. If you find yourself using it a lot to post very large phone photos then come back to it later and well help you find figure it out.

Oof. Cloudinary is a bit painful--this nuummite is polished and burnished. It still shows surface scratches/pits, but this is the best I've been able to do.
