jasoninsd Ok Jason, as promised here's a few pictures of some selected tumble Polished Blackskin Agate slabs. Really like this material, hard like Montana but with a lot less fractures. This one has some light blue in the center, 3 of the larger slabs I have tumbled. IMG_3953 by Findrocks, on Flickr Backlit IMG_3961 by Findrocks, on Flickr This had a quartz lined center cavity with the light blue center. Saved half and polished that(could not find it) IMG_3955 by Findrocks, on Flickr A group backlit; IMG_3963 by Findrocks, on Flickr These are my favorite scene slabs IMG_3966 by Findrocks, on Flickr Cut several slabs out of this one. I seem to be missing 2 or 3 slabs somewhere, my filing/storage system is not quite 100% IMG_3964 by Findrocks, on Flickr

Henry, those are some amazing examples of this material! Thanks for posting the pics! This material is quickly climbing my favorites list. I just finished working five cabs of these today, but I haven't taken them off dop...I was hoping to beat you to posting the pics! LOL The first two pictures show my favorites out of this batch. I love those tight fortifications in those slabs. I need to get some more of these. I only had a few rocks...and loved every square inch that came out of them!

Those are awesome. How thick are the slabs? Chuck Varies, most are 3/16" with some as thin as 1/8" and a couple about 1/4". Since I do tumble selected slabs I tend to cut them thinner than pendant slabs. Blackskin Agate and Brazilian Agate and a few other selected agates with their concentric type patterns make for nice tumbled pieces. I don't recall ever tumbling any larger Jasper or Crazy Lace or similar material as they are better suited to Pendants. For some non-concentric type material I may face polish a larger piece to sell. It is interesting to me how my thought process and therefore my work process keeps evolving. One likes to think that he or she gets smarter through experience, we will just go with that!!

Those are beautiful, Henry!
You use a rotary for the whole tumble, correct? How long does it take for the whole process with slabs?

Those are beautiful, Henry! You use a rotary for the whole tumble, correct? How long does it take for the whole process with slabs? I put ran these in the UV-18 Vibe. The larger size of some of the pieces really affect the motion in the barrel. Ran them for 3 or 4 extra days to get the polish I wanted. For future batches with larger slabs will most likely use the rotary. A six inch slab is really pushing the limit of the UV-18 and the Model B for that matter.
