I'm starting to get back into tumbling. Where do other Canadians buy their grit? Which of the mail order places have reasonable prices for product and shipping?
Thanks.

Do you have any American friends within a reasonable distance of the border? If so, have them order it and drive the hour to the border and get it from them.

I don't have a trusted supplier with cheap prices and quality product in Canada that I can recommend. I have used grit and media from Poly Plastics on Amazon but I don't remember if it was shipped from the US or sold in Canada by a third party. I have also bought from Robert Hall Originals who have good service, but aren't inexpensive. The nice thing with them is they will make up custom amounts of grit if requested. Cross border is always an option, but if you do that be sure to ask for USPS shipping, because packages being mailed sometimes do not to attract customs charges, whereas some couriers (eg UPS) will hit you with a brokerage free

Thanks, all. I've found canadiantreasureseekers.com/ and capilanorock.ca/. They both have not-terrible prices, though stock levels seem to be an issue right now. And, Amazon carries Poly Plastics stuff. An order from rockshed.com, after conversion to CAD and ignoring shipping, is about 20% cheaper. As for driving across the border to pick something up, that works and that's likely what I'll end up doing. Got to keep in mind that that's about $40 in gas right now, plus time. Still cheaper than getting a parcel delivered, and I can pick up multiple parcels in one day if I plan ahead.

Excellent resource!
I'm quite new here and still finding my way around. I hadn't yet even noticed there was a "vendors reviews" forum.
Thanks.

I remember reading a post here of a supplier in Mississauga, who sell bulk grit for as blasting media, 50 lb bag minimum from what I remember. I have not dealt with this company but my next purchase I will give it a shot. Sorry I don't have any more information. I have purchased grit from Lakeside Gems in Bancroft.

For small quantities, Robert Hall Originals is pretty good, but not cheap. They are not far from Toronto if you re ever in the area and want to get it in person and save shipping. For the rough stages I don't mind buyig directly off Amazon (Polly Plastics is OK)as the quality is not as critical, but for the polish I try to stick with Robert Hall.

im from alberta i get all my grit from The Rock Shed i sometimes go to keystone sd. to get it or have it shipped to sweetgrass mt. and cross the border and pick it up 60% cheaper than buying it here in alberta so if your close to the border thats the route to go

Greetings and Welcome from Bonnybridge, Scotland!
Most people get their rocks, grits and polishes from The Rock Shed (SD) or Kingsley North (MI), I have updated Lapidary Vendors Worldwide too.
