I have a Graves Mark IV face3ter given to me probably almost 20 years ago. It has lots of laps and accessories and previously it worked fine as far as I can tell. i stupidly used it to cab before I knew better and abandoned the attempt as it was so slow. i have 2 8" vertical cabbers now and an Ameritool that's nice for working in front of the TV. The faceter has been in the mechanical closet for years. i and my wife are making our first trip to William Holland the first week in May and I am taking a faceting course3. I pulled out my faceter and checked it out. Of course it needs a drive belt- no problem- but it is otherwise dead except for the lamp. I would like to troubleshoot it before buying a new $200 motor It would be tragic to do so when all I need is a new $15 condenser. i noted the green ground wire was loose and there is a black wire attached to the mounting screw post. It isn't live but I thought that was wierd. Anyway, the motor is dead. When the rotary switch is turned on, there is no hum, he motor doesn't get warm or vibrate. It rotates easily in one direction. There is no smelling smoke etc. and the inline fuse seems intact. Could anyone post a picture of the inside/ underneath of their machine so I can figure out what the black and green wires are for/ why they're loose? Any ideas about how to find the problem and save a lot of time and money ordering parts I may not need? Thanks so much!
By the way, thanks to the responders who passed along info about Lortone parts. I've been offline a while and am onoly now gettign back to my rocks. Problem was eventually solved when i found some odd parts in stock at Kingsley North. I think the Johnson Brothers guy is still laughing nd Minnesota Lapidary- nice folks- couldn't help me out.
Thanks all!
