Thanks to all who have fallen fighting for our freedoms. Back in 1964 I was a senior in high school here in Columbia SC. Just before we graduated, the senior class took a trip to Charleston SC for the day and toured the city. We visited the Battery, Fort Sumter, Morris Island, etc. Another place we went to around lunch time was Hampton Park. The tour guide took us around and we learned some of the history of the park and that part of it had once been a cemetery. Hampton Park was the site of the first gathering to honor fallen soldiers on May 1, 1865, shortly after the Civil War ended. They called it Decoration Day. Posted a couple more photos Rich to include the other side of the marker. For you cigar smokers out there here's the Cigar Factory marker. The historic 1882 building is still there.
