Hey Everyone, Well, here we go! Today I filled my UV-10 bowl to what I thought was 3/4 full of rocks, then took out 3 I thought were too big. Then I reread the part about how big of rocks you can use, and put them all back in, plus more. I filled the bowl with water, then blocked the top and poured it all out to wet the rocks like dshanpnw said, turned it on and scattered in 2.5 TBS of 220 grit, with only a couple sprits of water. It took off and within a few minutes everything was colored gray and I was off. I was a bit shocked at how loud it seemed, but it's vibrating rocks afterall I guess. To dampen the sound some I put it on the floor under a table in the garage and on a mat I had and blocked the front of it with a 2" foam cushion. We live in a duplex and I was hoping it would mellow the sound a bit. You can hear the muffled roar of it in our livingroom, which is on the same level as the garage, but not really in our bedroom, which is directly above the garage. I also checked outside, and although you can hear it somewhat through the garage door, it's undetectable as to what it is, just a low whiring sound.
But still I was wondering if anyone is aware of what materials I could use, that won't break the bank, to block or dampen the sound a bit more? Thanks!

It doesn't look like you have any small material in the barrel. That will make a huge difference in the noise level of the machine while running. I use large ceramics and also reuse some of my smaller rocks as smalls through multiple runs.

I had added some large ceramics after that picture was taken, but this morning after reading your post I went out to the yard and scavanged about 15 small 1/2 inch rocks. We have an area where someone put down small river rocks/gravel for cover. At any rate, I also added them to the barrel. Leaving now but when we come back I'll check it this afternoon.
