There is an update for your iPhone, iPads, etc. that you need to install immediately if you haven't done it yet. It fixes two security vulnerabilities that would allow someone to access your devices without you even having to open or click on a link or whatever.
If you haven't updated - DO IT NOW!

My iPhone has had several automatic updates in the last week. I wonder if this problem is what they have been fixing.

This hit home with me yesterday. Something happened with the payment system at work on Friday. We use Ipads. I am beginning to think someone hacked into it.
The system was being very slow, not acknowledging when we were typing characters in to cash out customers. Sometimes, a delayed response. I had it respond as a cash payment for someone who had a credit card pre-authorized. I voided that payment. Then did a credit card payment. Entered their tip. At the end of the day, when I was long gone, the credit card payment had been refunded. We are not to do refunds, as they take much longer than voids. This is what makes me wonder.
None of my co-workers said they did this.
The result is that I have to pay my employer the almost $80.00 that the payment was for. This was more than I made for my shift. Lots of customers, but most had a credit card on file and stayed for many hours. Most were still there when I clocked out, so if they left a tip, it went to those who clocked in after me. Those who paid cash were upset that I was working alone, in pain and very slow. So minimal cash tips.
Fortunately, all of the system updates came through Saturday AM, when I was there.
My employer and I are still trying to determine what happened, but as of now, I must pay for the refunded charge today.
Oh well.

If you were gone already, you should not be responsible for it. I'm sure there is a time stamp on the refund transaction. Your employer should be working with whatever payment system they use to find the cause of the payment problems. You can't be held responsible for software glitches or someone hacking in to their system. If anyone should reimburse anyone, it should be the payment vendor reimbursing your employer. Or, if your employer did not update their iPads with the security patch, they should eat the loss.

The breach was committed while I was working. The strange refund was discovered a couple days later. My user ID is on the refund, so my responsibility. The Ipad I was using had the update come through the day after the breach.

The Ipad I was using had the update come through the day after the breach. Well I still think it's wrong. It's your employer's responsibility to make sure their equipment is up to date in the software department. If it were me, I'd insist they call whatever payment company they use to do an investigation into how that happened. That's their responsibility, too. You have been there a long time and do a lot for them. It's the least they could do. They should also want to know how it happened so that it can be prevented in the future. You shouldn't have to pay for a hacker's theft if that's what it turns out to be. ETA: Come to think of it, I'm sure the payment company was informed of the security issues and should have notified all of their customers immediately to run the updates for the patches. If your employer didn't run it, it's not your responsibility. If it was a software glitch on the payment companie's end, then it's still not your responsibility. Sorry about the rant. It just pisses me off when the little guy gets screwed.

I assume the Ipad belonged to the business, should not be using your own equipment for someone's business transaction. It's the responsibility of the owner to make good any loss. Holding an employee responsible for his equipment security failure is un-acceptable and should not be tolerated. What if the failure had been a lot larger, $300, $400 or more?
I do believe the transaction company should bear some responsibility. Credit Card companies write off loss by fraud all the time.
Good luck

Thanks all. I went to pay what I owed yesterday. Found out that do my saying over and over I did not refund the transaction, the software comapany we contract with was contacted. After 2 hours on the phone, everything was straightened out. I had run the transaction a minute before the update was to come through. Withought going into to much detail, this is a criticle time for the system.
The software company was able to run the refunded purchase through. They appreciated being alerted to a glitch in their system. I did not have to pay anything.
I was told that it took 2 hours of payroll time to sort this out and to be careful on future transactions. Another told me not to worry about it, as this was not my fault. Just bad timing.
Yes, the Ipad belonged to the business.
I wish the software company had something built in to notify when upodates are about to come through. Maybe they will in the future.

God bless and amen I am happy to have read this whole thread and find a happy ending. Way to have a polite yet firm backbone in the truth as I imagine that was your best approach I mean it did work! Supper happy when the little guy stands bold than justified.
