What neat stories! My Better Half is super supportive of my lapidary and wrapping. He built me work tables in a shed in the backyard for my workshop and fixes my saws when they don't work right. He's not thrilled at the moment when he looks at my rock collection, knowing we'll be moving it in about 18 months, but at least I'm not buying anymore for now. Well, not that much more. Ahem.
He likes and appreciates my wraps, likes that they sell, and is encouraging me to go into it 'full time' after I retire, instead of how it is now, when I do it when I'm not too tired from my day job. He doesn't like the noise my tumbler makes, so I'm waiting until we have a garage too really learn how to tumble the right way, and get that mirror like shine I see in the pics here. He isn't the kind that will rockhound with me, but he likes the idea of driving ATV's on back roads with compartments to hold rocks. Heck, he even went along when I went to the Tonopah Turquoise mine, and hung out at the brewery and in downtown Tonopah for the day, while I got to search the trailings to my hearts content one day! There's not much in downtown Tonopah, lol.
We've been together 10 years now. He's the cat's meow, so I'm going to marry him come May. He's mostly only grumpy before he's had his coffee in the morning.

What a great resource and info Bluesky! It's on my bucket list for sure, but right now I'm not supposed to add to my rock collection until after we move to Tucson in 18 months, sigh. After that, I'll see if I can get my BH to hook up the RV and make it to Tony's BBQ and buy some pretty rock!!

Omg, just looked. I registered here in 2006, that's 11 years ago! I confess to moving over to Fb, but it's not the same. I miss this place. Met so many wonderful folks when I loaded my daughter and my beat up pick-up truck and headed to Burro Creek for a meet-up years ago. I think it was Stoner and Catmandew that helped this poor camping noob to set up her tent! I had the most fun ever, rockhounding for days, and meeting everyone.
I've been busy/stressed with life, but will be retiring after next year, and we're leaving here, and heading for Tucson! Hope to convince the hubby to take our new RV to Quartzite one of these years for that BBQ. And hopefully I'll have lots of time to play with rock and wire again, and a garage to try my hand at tumbling. And try to do some rockhounding again too.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Have a fun cruise loot! Where are you going? I have friends that love cruises, but I've never been on one. Yet...

Oooh, quartz! 1/2 inch to 1 inch sounds perfect.
I think I'm good gemfeller! This should last the rest of the school year for us! Lucky students!

Rock folks are the best! Thanks, Dave.
I've been at it (teaching) for over 25 years now. It's tough, alternating with awesome, lol. I have two more years to put in, then I'm going to retire! I'll be able to spend more time for my hobbies, like rocks!

Hi all! I'm pretty good at wrapping and cabs, but I've been pretty fail with my rock tumbler. And my hubby doesn't like me to run it because of the noise and vibration. So I was hoping to buy or trade slabs/broken slabs, like a small priority box, of pretty polished rocks for my students, who earn points for prizes!
Thanks in advance!

Thank you for making this thread Dave! I'm hoping to make my first trip to Quartzite in a couple of years, in an RV. It looks crazy crowded, and we're new to RV'ing, AND I have to talk my hubby into it first! I hope some pitch in about the best time to get there, and a place to set up.

Ha, Melhill, that wire saved me! I started wrapping again, and had maybe 12" of fine copper wire on my spool. Thought I had to put in an order and wait a couple of weeks, when I remembered the wire you sent me! Rich stripped it for me, and wow! I'm set for a while! Here's what I finished: Rainforest Jasper

It came! Thank you Melhill, it's a beautiful wrap!! It was so heavy, I thought it was some mechanical dohickey that my Better Half had ordered, but nope, it was lots of copper wire! And some nice rough too! Nothing beats a box of rocky goodness!
