Very nice cabs! If you look carefully at the backlit photo there is a very clear image of a beautiful woman looking to the left on the left half of the cab. Bob

This last weekend we took our case to the El Dorado Show in Placerville. We didn't spend any time there on Saturday because we had to come back home to deal with some vehicle problems that our son is having (cursed computer controls!!!) but we did make it on Sunday afternoon. It was a fun show that was well attended and the dealers that we talked to said their sales either matched or exceeded last year's. I wasn't in the mood to spend a lot of time looking and buying ( I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that I just might have a teensy weensy bit more rough than I can possibly deal with) so I bought only one parcel. It was some smaller pieces of Priday Plume Thunder Eggs. This dealer was local to the Sacramento area and this was his first show since 2004. He was getting rid of some of his material that he has collected over the years. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name though If I wanted to I could contact the club for it. I paid $5. for each piece. Dishwasher except those that are too big to fit in it. HOORAY! for paper plates and bowls!! I use a tray of cat litter (hopefully not visited by the cats) to remove all the oil from my slabs. I never have to wash the slab that way. I don't mind doing dishes for my wife. When I grew up there was only my brother and me to do the dishes - no sisters. Dishes was one of our chores around the house and farm. Bob

To get rid of the ripples go to a worn 220 belt and push into it somewhat. it should remove most of them. Follow it up with the same action on a 400 and 600 belt. That should do the trick. Bob

Stu, This particular piece was very solid; however, some that I have seen does have a lot of arms on the stars that haven't been sufficiently filled and probably won't cab well without some filling/stabilizing. Overall, I haven't come across much that is just crumbly and won't stay together as you work it. Bob

Mike, Yes I did it by eye. I keep turning the cab around, looking at it from the back and such as I look for distortions in symmetry. On this cab it doesn't have a strong asymetric pattern so it was rather easy to do. On some that have bold, distorted patterns it is very hard to ignore the pattern as I shape them. Fran, I was fortunate that it was very well agatized and filled in so it didn't have any pits and consequently it polished easily and very well. Bob

By the way this is the first time that I have seen any of this material in 25 years, especially outside of Southern Oregon where it was found. The digging location is on private property and no longar accessible (for many years) and it is in the very small logging community of Lincoln. PM me and we can discuss how to best utilize the material. Bob

This material looks identical to an agate from Oregon called Lincoln Agate. It is quite rare and no longer available. I would recommend looking at it carefully before cutting it. The flat one would be a very nice specimen. Here are some photos of pieces that I have in my collection that I haven't yet worked. The $30 price that you see on one of them is what I paid for it 25 years ago. Photos of a specimen that I polished up that I display in my case. View of the back. Bob
