Hey guys and gals!!! I'm picking up my used Covington 250 Tumbler on Labor Day and I need a crash course on tumbling! Anybody got a link or some instructions? I aint got a clue! I can't wait to get started, but I wanna get it right because I don't have a lot of rough material to play around with(YET). My first tumble will be ALL Rose Quartz from the Hogg Mine here in Ga. Doug, who I bought the tumbler from, is graciously sending me a bunch of grit for all the steps! Thanks Doug!!! Now, all I need is some know how, and I'll be on my way!!!! I've read a lot of stuff but now it is all mixing in my head ! Figured I'd ask all you tumbling experts! Y'all show off some beautiful stuff here and I want mine to look that good. If somebody could post or PM me a step by step tumbling procedure I would GREATLY appreciate it!! If it turns out well I promise to share some pics! And maybe a really small Rose quartz lottery like a Pick a number between _&_ game or something for a few peices.

When I first spotted it, it looked like melted metal and I thought WOW a BIG METEORITE!!!!!!!!! Then I saw the garnets and knew it was terrestrial. But I'm extremely happy with it being my first find!

Well I found it while I was digging with one of those tiny backhoes. I was digging a whole to bury some asphalt that was broken up all in the driveway. And there it was! I don't know for sure if I dug it up or just disturbed where it was sitting, making it more noticeable! I have not cleaned it at all. The pictures are exactly what it looked like when I picked it up. Well til my son dropped it and broke that small peice off. It sat on my deck for 3 years before I tried to find out what it was. I'm thinking it came from somewhere else because I've lived in this area all my life and have never seen anything resembling this particular one. Maybe someone found it while on vacation then put it in the yard and forgot about it. I don't know.....all I know is it is cool looking!

I was told by some of the rockhounds on the Dirty Rockhound Forum that it was a mica schist with garnets. Still not absolutely sure. It is riddled with those little purple stones!

Well one of the guys on DRF sold me a Covington 250 and a bunch of grit to get me on my way for a really really good deal!! I get to pick it up on Labor Day at the Hogg Mine in Lagrange, Ga. when we have our dig there. Can't wait to get my first batch going!!!!!!

Yeah I knew the limestone was pretty worthless (except for the formation of flint?) Does flint form in it or are they just often found together?

I'm so new to all this that anything will probably look great to me! LOL When I get my tumbler on Labor Day I'll probably throw just about anything in it just to see what it does! I've got a 5 gal bucket almost full of Rose Quartz to start out on!

I was kinda thinking that. All I've ever seen around here was pretty much plain brown or rusty orange with no real definate pattern or lines in it.

Does anyone know if there are agates worth looking for in SW Ga.? Also the area I live in has a lot of limestone (Flint River) and you can find flint in almost any field. Can flint be tumbled?
I'm new to all this rockhounding and am trying to get an idea of what to look for around my home in Americus, Ga. We have lots of red clay roads and I've been thinking of riding them and looking but have no idea what I'd be looking for. ANY tips would be really appreciated!

Those are nice! One day maybe I'll have the money for a machine to do that! I like the desert scene and the one that broke. Looks nice with the curved sides!

There are videos of it in action all over you tube! Mac does not fly it like a bomber, he does aerobatics with it! Just search Hodges Hobbies B-29. Really worth watching!

Actually there are now some electric models that are great flyers! For $150 or so you can get a complete setup: plane, battery, charger, and controller. We have had a lot of people lately learning to fly on the Super Cub by Hobby Zone. Here's a link if you're interested . www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=HBZ7100I can't wait to sell off a few of mine and start polishing all this stuff me and my boy got at the Hogg Mine a while back!
