I do not post here as often as I used to so many may not know me. Fire agate is my favorite stone to cut. Here is one I cut last week. I cut this out of Deer Creek fire agate rough. fa 16.5mm x 10.8mm x 5.5mm 6 by CHRISTOPHER LESSO, on Flickr

I was given a nice little slab of alunite a couple of years ago. It has been sitting on the center console in my truck ever since. At least once a week I pick it up and admire it. I think of cabbing it from time to time but can't decide. It is a very nice specimen, and I am hesitant to cab it while not knowing if will atually take a polish? It takes a decent polish. I use Zam at the end to help it along

I really like alunite, too. I bought some rough once, but when I went to cut it, it fell apart. I wasn't aware that it need stabilizing. It was very soft, too. So, not I buy cabs. Check out my facebook lapidary page. I have a lot posted and available www.facebook.com/ChristopherAnthonyLapidary

For some reason I equate the southwest with turquoise. Why named fire? More like an Ocean color. More pics of finds?!!! It has play of color (fire) similar to opal

That's a beauty. I'd love to see a video of that one to see all the color play. I no longer have this one.

Beautiful piece. Where is fire agate found? Fire agates are found in Mexico, Arizona, California and some say New Mexico. I know of one deposit that you enter the road in New Mexico but the deposit is actually in Arizona so I am not sure about the claim about New Mexico.

I always try to encourage others to cut/carve fire agate. If you look back I am pretty sure I shared a tutorial I made on how I cut fire agate here. Just go slow and easy. Cut a little and look a lot! Wowzer. I gotta get some fire agate Stefan, let me know when you are ready I have hundreds of pounds of good rough and thousands of windowed material to choose from

Beautiful! That stuff always amazes me. There are some nice rough pieces in my collection, but it seems so daunting I don't even consider doing anything with it. Thanks for sharing! Just cut it!! Thank you everyone

I should be in Quartzsite the 29th of December to do some mining and visiting friends. As of today like drocknut stated, the Pow Wow is still a go and will be open. We will be set up there Jan. 20-24 in space numbers 274-275. Hope to see some of you all out there
