Evenin all. Been a while since I was last on here. Been a rough few weeks. Been too weak to walk to the bathroom without help, much more sit at my computer desk. Finally starting to get some strength back.
Worst part is my little buddy Jake has been so worried about me that he's going downhill too. Poor little guy hardly eats, and is getting too weak to hop up in my recliner with me. I've completely lost all use of my right arm, so I can't help him up to sit with me. Breaks my heart to see my best buddy in such a poor state.Needless to say that this has me depressed. I see him sitting on the floor, looking up at me, and all I can do is reach down and scratch his ears and talk to him. I fear my little buddy will be gone soon. But it will fulfill my wish to be buried with his ashes beside me in my box.
Anyway, just wanted to wish my friends well, and warn the snowflakes that this ornery old goat is still kickin.

Been sitting, going through boxes of slabs & wishing I could still cab a few. Oh well, that ain't gonna happen. I'm there myself Don. I'm dividing those slabs up, boxing them and sending them to friends that can still do something with them. Dave LOL There comes a time in our lives when we must begin getting rid of our tonnage of rocks. Been offline for a couple days, unable to log in. Don't know what was going on. Finally after playing with this damned computer for 2 days, (and being tempted to kick it across the room a couple times), it decided to let me log into RTH. Ran out of my happy pills a couple days ago, so haven't had much sleep. Hopefully my new prescription will be available tomorrow. Until then, I'm walking around like a zombie. Gonna try looking around the forum, and hope I don't get locked out again. Don

Glad to see you here abusing your friends and vice vesa than sitting alone in front of a damn TV> You belong here as much as you are able. Your old posts helped me and hundreds of other people. I thank you and tell you to spend as much time as you can with us. A jar of pickles is always better with a fiery Jalapeno. But but but, I like jalapenos more than pickles. I'll spend as much time here as I can, but some days I'm too damned weak to do more than sit in front of the TV. Today I'm sharing time. Been sitting, going through boxes of slabs & wishing I could still cab a few. Oh well, that ain't gonna happen.

Evenin all you rockhounds. Haven't been around for a few weeks. Just wanted to let everyone know I'm not feeding the worms yet.
My wife was kind enough to bring home a virus that was going around the nursing home where her mother is. Lucky me caught it, so it's been a rough few weeks.
Hope all of you are getting out hounding. If you are, pick up a rock or 2 in my name. Wish I could get out hounding, but those days are over. Rest assured that I'll be hounding with all of you in spirit, if not in body.
Still too weak to sit in front of this keyboard for more than a few minutes at a time, so I'm off to my recliner to rest some more.
Keep on rockin.
Don

Try the Blue Hills on the east end of the Calico Mts. for pet palm. Not real colorful or plentiful, but nice solid material.

Just a quick update. I'm still hanging in there. Ran out of happy pills last week. Went about 76 hours without sleep. There's a shortage of specialized docs up here, so they have to travel from town to town to see patients. He finally got back & renewed my prescription. Good stuff. Kills the pain & knocks me out at night. I still refuse to take the damned things 3 times per day like prescribed. Don't want to turn into an addicted zombie, so I just fight through the pain until bedtime.
Haven't been online as often as I'd like to be. Spending most of my time in my recliner watching reruns. Only get up to pee, eat & take Jake out. Need to figure out how to attach my keyboard to my recliner so I can spend more time on the computer.
Hope all of my rockin friends are out finding lots of treasures to cut & polish. Wish I could get out on the hunt again, but it's not to be. Just as well. mORE STUFF LEFT FOR YOU TO FIND. ( I always did manage to bring more rocks home than I could possibly use ).
Rock on. Don.

Don You and I definitely had differences when I was active here. I am certain I still think you're full of it on nearly everything political, but my heart sank to the floor to see this thread during my random every couple months check-in here. While I didn't learn a damn useful thing from you politically, one can't deny a force of nature. I hope the stubborn ass that you are ekes out every second of life this world owes you, and I am sure you'll make every last one productive, for better or worse. I've learned from you even if it's been in a state of frustration, and your example in this thread I'll remember forever for the dignity and purpose conveyed even as you face what is likely beyond most of your readers' footsteps so far. There will be lapidarists far into the future stumbling via Google "how do I" searches led to this archive of your experience converted to text. And I know, like you've said, you're not gone yet. Guys built like you never really are, and that's a good thing. Peace, comfort, and love to you from me, in a fully liberal way of course. And yeah, I hope it annoys you just a little. YA, but Hillary still belongs in prison, & the Donald still won.

LOL Dave, I'm still alive & kickin. Just been so damned weak with the meds they have me on, all I've wanted to do is sit in my recliner staring at the TV. Don, is there some thyroid cancer based research charity you are aware of? I'd like to donate towards this cause in your honour. Perhaps others would also. The so called cancer research centers are so crooked that I'd prefer to see donations go to Wounded Warriors, or the ASPCA. I've heard that there are already proven cures out there that aren't being released because it will cut into all of the grant money big pharma is getting from us tax payers.

Woke up yesterday with the right side of my tee shirt soaked in bloody puss. Damned crust over the cancer broke open. spent yesterday & last night at the hospital. Didn't get released til noon today. Now they have me taking antibiotics along with the happy pills. Got my armpit wrapped in gauze which has to be changed 3 times per day. Doc wants to carve on me, but I'm resisting.

Dang man, and you were offering to come by here and help me out ? Don't need you collapsing over here. Doubt if I could pick you up. I'd have to tie a rope around your ankles and drag you with my lawn tractor.
Seriously though, get that ticker checked out, and take care of yourself. Lots of rocks out there that need collecting.

Thanks for the offer Mark. My wife can help with most things, and my trucker/rockhound brother from another mother will be coming by here next month.
I ain't totally helpless yet. It's just a pain in the butt having to do everything with 1 hand. I'm still driving the lawn tractor to mow my yard, tho it's taking a lot longer. At least with 4 acres to cut, it keeps me busy & keeps my mind off of other things.

New update. I've lost almost all use of my right arm & hand. So much for trying some cabbing this year. Been loosing weight fast. Down to size 34 pants from size 36. Even the 34's are loose on me, but at least my pants aren't sliding down my butt. May have to start using old man suspenders to keep my pants up. At least I have a fancy pair hidden in a drawer.
Doctor has changed my pain meds. No more Lyrica. Got me on Oxycodone now. Get a pretty good buzz from these things. Supposed to take 1 or 2 tablets every 4 hours. I'm taking 1 at noon, & 1 at bedtime. Don't want to get hooked on those things. As long as I can keep the pain down to a tolerable level, I'll use less the prescribed. Don't want to live what's left of my life in a zombie like state.
Sorting through my slabs & rocks. I'll keep a few of the best, just in case I get use of my right arm back. I may make up a few small FRB's of slabs to send out on a first come basis. Depends on how much the pain & meds will allow me to do.
I'm still determined to get the hotrod out for a couple drives before I have to put it up for sale. I'll have to skip my meds on those days. Don't want to fall asleep at the wheel & take out some other driver. As soon as i can hose it off, I'll put my pickup up for sale. Won't get much for it. It's a 99 with less than 36,000 miles on it. After a couple cruises in the hotrod, I'll probably give up my drivers license. Don't think I'll be safe on the road for much longer.
Anyway, that's the latest news. I'm still reading posts every day, but not answering very much. Having to one finger this keyboard with my left hand, using Caps Lock every time I want to capitalize a letter is a real pain in the butt.
