Cliff, I gave up drinking 32 years ago tomorrow, but I've got a fifth of Jack that was given to me back in 69 that has been tempting me.
Thanks Mel. Things are getting pretty rough, but I try to keep a good attitude.

"Would agree that there are medical conditions and illnesses that no one should have to suffer with for extended period. Medical profession needs to focus on extending quality of life rather than extending the quantity of life. I do not want anyone telling me how long me or my loved ones needs to suffer."
Amen to that Henry. If I could, I'd end the pain I'm going thru today. But the doc won't give me the right damned pills, so until my timeclock runs down I'll enjoy me coffee and all of the foods they preach not to eat.

Who measures their intake of coffee in cups ? I measure my daily intake by pots per day. At least 3, and sometimes 4.

Damn...I WAS happy with what we've been finding. After seeing this one I feel so...inadequate. :-) LOL A friend found these, and I bought them from him. I've never been that lucky myself.

Hope this works. Photobucket has been giving problems lately. This is my prize. Both halves of a broken Fairburn, found within a few yards of each other.

If you could get rid of the orange rust staining, the black and white Fairburns are one of the rarer color combinations, and can be quite valuable.
The first one I found was just S.E. of the Badlands State Park. It was only a large chip off of a much larger agate. It had the very rare orange bands. Not knowing any better at the time, I face polished it.

Welcome aboard from another Fairburn lover in Aberdeen,SD. # 1 & 2 are obviously Fairburns. # 3 & 4 are both prairie agates.
Just a little word of warning. To a serious Fairburn collector, You have reduced the value of your agates by tumbling them. Better to acid clean them, followed by oiling them with mineral oil to make the colors stand out.
PS, Don't believe captbob. I'm anything but a Fairburn guru. Just a guy who loves them. The real Fairburn guru is a guy who calls himself sdgoldpanner,(Bob). He seldom comes on the forum, But has written books about Fairburns and other rockhounding SD subjects. He lives in Rapid City. He's getting up in years, And doesn't get out hunting as often as he used to. He knows all of the most productive places to hunt Fairburns. One of his favorites is the Railroad Buttes area.
Have fun hunting those allusive Fairburn critters, and watch out for those buzz tailed snakes hiding in the grass.

Never got one of those forms to fill out, but I always found that if I showed up for jury duty wearing levi's and a Greatful Dead t-shirt, I was one of the first to be excused.

More good news. For the first time in 5 days, Jake left brown land mines in the back yard. He also barked for the first time in 5 days. Music to my ears. Damn, it's been quiet around here. strange how you miss those little things like barking at everything that comes up the road.

He's far from 100%, but at least he ate a little bit this evening. First he's eaten in almost 4 days.

Happy to report that after a night of puking and peeing all over the hall carpet, Jake is feeling somewhat better today. Every day, hour and minute I can have with my little buddy, I count as a blessing.
Thanks to all for the prayers and kind words.
Wife is holding up much better at the loss of her mother than I thought she would. I suspect it will hit her after the funeral on Friday.

MIL passed at 9:20 this evening, and I expect Jake to pass tonight. Poor guy can no longer stand up, and his breathing is very shallow. Gonna be a sad next few days around the house.

Thanks all for your kind words.
Cliff, I'm gonna copy and laminate your poem. It will go in my box with Jake and me. I've been looking online for a suitable urn for Jake's ashes. He'll be at my left hip, his favorite place in my recliner, and that poem will be attached to the side of my box for all to read before I go underground.
As if things weren't bad enough today, my wife got a call from the hospice where her mother is being taken care of. They say it's only a matter of time before her mother passes. So I'm on watch at home with my little buddy, and my wife is on bedside watch with her mother.

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. My little buddy Jake is on his way out. Little guy barely has the strength to stand. Nothing to do but sit with him and wait. It's breaking my heart seeing him like this. But if there really is a God, I know that we'll be together again soon, hunting that big rock pile in the sky.
Don't know when I'll be back on line again. After Jake is gone, there are arrangements to be made for his cremation. His ashes will be buried with me.

WOO HOO. Just found a medium FRB box marked slabs 2011. Maybe I can't cab them anymore, but it's still fun looking.

Just stick a board by you so he can get up the ramp. You two need to be together. LOL. My wife went out and bought one of those fancy sets of dog steps. He refuses to try them.
