What you have will certainly get you off to a running start. BTW, we LOVE photos here- any and all. Send a P.M. to Tommy to hook you up to the Rock Show Photo Galleries, which will make it relatively easy to post pics on this forum. Just @ a glance, it's appears you have 3 trim saws. If it were me, I would set up one of the 6"ers w/ mineral oil and a good blade (MK 303) and the other (which ever is easier to clean up)w/ water and something like crystal lube, to help w/ rust prevention. That saw will need to be cleaned and dried after each work session. Your "water saw" will be used for cutting stone that might absorb oil, such as turquoises, serpentine, and jade, among others. I would also use a thinner blade on the water machine, buy several thin kerf chinese cheapos. This will reduce waste on your more expensive material. Others are certain to chime in w/ their thoughts. I'm a big fan of the bench top drill press (but not the $79.00 one @ Kingsley) They can be pulled into service for many lapidary tasks besides drilling. I'm looking forward to seeing some cuts from that 18" drop saw- Looks like a MONSTER!

Mindat.org is an incredible resource, available to everyone, and needs to be saved! The vast photo gallery they host is a great resource in helping to identify different minerals. Have you found a mineral in one location and want to find other locales it can be found? You can do it here. Are you in a location and want to know what minerals can be found there? Want to know the chemistry, melting point, and spectrographic analysis of a mineral? It's @ Mindat.org, plus so much more. Check it out for yourself sometime. I'm gonna go make a donation now.

Well I ordered one, so you might want to wait and see if I can pull off this reverse-a-roo. Wish me luck, the motor is due on July 10th, my colonoscopy date.

You will have to reverse it to be able to use it. Lortone motor is CCW. Thought I saw directions to reverse them somewhere. Sure could use those directions- I ordered before I saw your post.LOL!

I recently picked up a vintage Lortone LS 10 auto feed slab saw @ an estate sale. Among other things, it needs a new feed gear motor- Lortone wants $70 + shipping for one. Does anybody out there have a working one, new or used that they might sell or trade? Thanks for looking!

Mini-Sonic MT4 Fan here. Quiet, dial-ability for different rock hardness, no real parts to replace. NO Belt, and Great results with some practice.! Found mine used on Ebay for less than $100.

hello how much is this unit? I message you about the lortone saw rebuild . Thanks, Stephen AS stated in the last paragraph, the price is $500, and a deal at that. I do have motors available, not as pretty as The Monster, but in perfect operating condition. They are priced separately, but $100 should get you 2.

THIS ITEM IS NOW AVAILABLE ON EBAY, W/ SHIPPING AVAILABLE!@www.ebay.com/itm/253719913417?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649Here’s a versatile 8” arbor set, that on the left side uses a Covington arbor, and has two worn but true 8” SiC grinding wheels (about 7” now) 100 grit and 220 grit, 1 1/2 “ wide. They could be replaced with diamond wheels, if you later choose. The right side arbor is homemade welded steel and uses pillow block bearings. The left side has a Scott Murray 8”x3” Expando drum, and I’m including 3 NEW belts w/ it- a 220, 400, & 600 grit. The far right side is set up for spin on disks, either flat or domed. I’m including the used discs that I found w/ it, 2 of them are 10” diameter and slightly domed and canvas covered, and were used w/ various silicon carbide grits. They use a fitted retaining ring to hold the canvas on, so replacement with your preferred material would be pretty simple. There is a 8” dia. Flat lap that appears charged w/ a unknown polishing agent. Pad is replaceable. There’s one more flat lap and it has an 8” Sic disc attached, along w/ a few 8” 120 grit Sic discs. The four hoods and 2 arbors included have all been stripped and repainted, bearings cleaned and checked, belts are ready to connect to your motors (2 required, unless you’re creative). Rubber edge guard covers all exposed metal edges. The hoods have been plumbed with brass valves and is easily adapted to your water supply. The arbors should be mounted on a sturdy work surface. An old desk or workbench could perhaps serve the purpose. The pans are made to be removable for easy cleaning. Please refer to photos for condition, as some of the hoods have a few dings, but nothing that could affect performance. This complete 2 arbor setup is available for the low asking price of $500. For local pickup in Yreka, CA Cash only and it must be picked up before May30, or after June 9. If no takers on the forum, I will put it on Ebay sometime after June 10. Thanks for looking. If interested, post here and then P.M. me.

Might be interested in the Covington. is it model # 447DDC? Don't see a model number, but on Covington's website, it is the 2-station open arbor that lists for $295. Later today I'll post some pics of the finished unit. Meant to do it yesterday, but got surprised by some random Thunderstorms in the P.M.

Considering heat often acts as a catalyst, perhaps warm water isn't the answer. I too have been running Lortones for years, QT6's & 12's, NEVER a problem. Those lids really need to be screwed on tight, w/o having to use a tool to tighten it, That said, I have always needed to use pliers to loosen that nut. I just don't believe it's a Lortone problem in this case.
