This is the biggest irritation and weakness (no pun intended) in Thumlers line of tumblers. I have used rubber inner tube patches but generally anything you glue on must be 100% attached or it will erode around the edges over time. A plexiglas lid is interesting. difficult to cut but likely to be a permanent repair. I have a better thumlers lid on mine at present. It seems to have even and appropriate thickness over its entirety. Perhaps the new replacement lids from Thumlers are better? someone here will know about that

Yet ... the latest study shows that coffee drinkers live longer...seems like the best long term effect possible

There are always scammers and quick buck artists lurking. People are people and will do almost anything for money. Common sense goes a long way. Don't bet the rent if you cant afford to lose it. I have gotten lots of great deals (and more importantly made some great friends) by dealing with people on this forum. I dont think I have been burned on this forum; in rare cases disappointed. When you need a diamond pacific genie and cant afford the list price, dont let your desire to get a deal make you risk a quarter of half of the list price if that's a gamble you cant afford to lose.
The worst online scam I got burned by was maybe ten or so years ago. I bought a grinder from a seller( private individual like myself) with excellent ratings and many posts. It never arrived. the seller of record was not directly to blame. He went on an extended vacation and his house sitter went on a selling spree on ebay under his identity. Unfortunate, but how was I to anticipate that!
Scammers often tug at your heartstrings. I've been burned by a soldier in full uniform; board the train and he sits next to me. As the conductor starts down the aisle toward us checking for tickets, the soldier has a story of needing to get home on leave and no cash, lost his wallet. Who can deny those protecting our country, eh?
Or i've traded goods online and when the package doesn't arrive I start questioning the other side... and they shut me up with a story of a wife in the hospital and they are indignant that I can be so heartless about a box of opal..and, oh btw, I never get my return package, que sera sera.

I was in Brazil in 1958 when they were having 1,000% inflation. You HAD to spend your paycheck as soon as you got it because the next day it was worthless. see the Guatemala coin below? Made of aluminum. and it is only 25% real!

Pennies are an extreme case of Government waste...
Coin collectors would horde the remaining pennies and hope to make a buck!
And the consumer would benefit immensely and this would be repeated everywhere:
Customer..." Sir , how much is that Convertible". Sales Rep..."that would be $39,999.95, my good man". Customer(snickering to herself).. "I'll take it".

Is there a place you can put a tank outside and run a line in? The main torch I use is a basic type torch like a plumber would use with a disposable bottle, I have a hose I got with it from home depot and an adaptor to use the larger tank. There are adaptors for refilling the disposable bottles as well, that way you could keep a larger tank outside the house and just use the smaller tanks that hold about the same as the butane torch refiller can. I also have a Smiths little torch for propane/oxygen, good for quickly heating small pieces, but the cheap torch and hose will easily heat up big stuff. Great idea Lee

I had a great Arts and Crafts Society(Lexington, Mass) that I dearly miss since I moved to Cape Cod and have not found anything similar on the Island.
I've bought a micro torch Blazer that runs on Butane. It works on some small pieces but it is very hard to get metal hot enough to solder. I dont really want a tank in my basement and don't know if there are any better alternatives.

I love the school and have been there ( silver, cabochons and opals). My wife and I had a period where we did arts and crafts vacations and this was the catalyst for those trips. She doesn't do rocks or silver so she went to Stained Glass and Carving and maybe beading
The instructors are very very good(who can I remember, Roberts, Mason, Arch Murphree.....if you have a chance and he is teaching that week check out Sandy Cline in Carving outside...a true Canadian curmudgeon).
Wednesday afternoon is free for exploration. You can hook up with a group or go alone to NC mines. If you have a car, there is a real close winery and others not too far, plus interesting towns like Dahlonaga and Helene and State Parks with hiking etc.
Enjoy, make contacts, and become a master craftsperson

States rights is a very confusing and misused concept. Our opinion depends what side of the issue we are on.
States rights seems to be just another way to denounce or blame someone else for making tough decisions (sometimes); on the other hand it is denounced as confusing or just plain wrong (sometimes).
When we are on the wrong side of the law we want our localities to trump it with states rights or local laws. When we are on the legal side, not so much in favor of other laws trumping our states rights.
I have little doubt Pot would be legal if we had a national referendum on it. Every state I have lived in has had ballot questions to decide issues that are populist and often well meaning but maybe politicians understand it would be political suicide to support. Things like banning dog racing, legalizing pot, expanding charter schools, allowing legal gambling, animal confinement, taxes, borrowing and bond issues, abortion, marriage, etc. If Trump really wants to be a man of the people, perhaps we should just have national ballot questions that decide the fate of immigration, pot, abortion, transgender rules, who you can go to bed with.
As for pot and driving. ... may not be popular but most people drive much slower (not sure that that always means safer) when stoned. I'd prefer that anyone who kills my kids with a car be punished regardless of whether or not they are stoned. Dead is dead and I dont care if a reckless driver has too many drinks or joints, is upset or tired , or is daydreaming or impatient behind the wheel

I wish people sold lapidary things around here. I can get seashells, though. ETA- Just did a quick look... there was no lapidary, but I found this under rocks norfolk.craigslist.org/jwl/5970710638.html LOL! See what I mean? LOL seashells and sand dollars? Or does the west corner the market on those too. Seriously though - you already know this - you got me searching craigslist cities on the east coast and you aren't kidding with the lack of lapidary results. Northeast is especially difficult when it comes to rockhounding; besides geology it may have something to do with population density and the relational lack of free land; it may have something to do with the lack of Government owned land since privately owned land is more or less off limits to collectors. If you are persistent you will find occasional collections and equipment for sale but rock hounds are more scarce in the east. Living on an island on the east coast, I find one one supply nearly endless...beachstones. There is a lot of quartz on the beaches. As you might expect you have to work to find nice clear quartz but that makes the nice ones you do find that much more valuable.
