Thanks for the replies
I have removed as much old green wax as I can and have started adding new shavings etc..
I will add some hot glue to see what happens with that
Check back in a week or two.
I have never bought wax myself! Much of my equipment is second hand or older.

I do so a majority of the time.
Always on harder stones like agate and PW. Always on high dome cabs.
Less often on turquoise and free hand low dome cabs

I have a Rock Rascal plug in dop pot that softens but not get wax to a drippy stage. I have worked around the issue with a mini butane torch but I wonder if there is a better solution.
I keep the pot inside a box covered with bobble wrap to retain heat.
I'm thinking my wax may contain "impurities". Despite having only green wax, the wax in the pot seems quite dark. I reuse wax from earlier cabs. Anyone else observe this behavior?

I moved to cape cod after retirement and except for the ultra conservative moneyed folks it is pretty damn good. Lots of artists and quirky people with a real positive vibe. Spring sucks but I get away a couple of times a year in winter and spring instead of summer and fall and that works well. Massachusetts has lots of hard working , family oriented passionate smart people. Very competitive but if yo can make it here you'll find a very happy place to be. Instead of rocks we have shells and clams and oysters and scallops and lobsters and striped bass. I still have two sons in Mass and two Grandchildren here, that's influential. I have family all around the country but except for my sister in Moraga, my immediate siblings and my Mother are in New Jersey. I was able to drive down there in less than 5 hours for a 50th year reunion of my 68 person HS graduating class last weekend. I can still get to Maine, NH, RI, CT, and Vt in an hour or two. I can drive to Boston or Providence in an hour plus to catch a flight to almost anywhere.
Before I retired I considered a lot of places and always thought I'd move west or maybe the mountains of NC or Ga. I loved Southern Utah for rockhounding and natural beauty. Springdale by Zion was real artsy and I love Sedona AZ but after my wife broke her wrist Az got of my "A" list. The Black Hills and Jackson Hole are worth considering but rock wise it is hard to beat Utah, Zona, NM, and Wyoming. Except maybe Oregon and I still havent tried Idaho

trying to find a green bottle pic of this classic I drank rolling rock long before it became fashionable. It was from Arnie's home town. For me it was just another cheap Pennsylvania Beer, only better tasting. I would buy Stegmaier 16 ounce bottles ( 3.99/case) and save the returnables(thick glass) for my beer making friends!

Love the labels and names. Since I have typical male prostate issues I don't drink as much beer as I used to. When I'm enjoying beer by myself I drink Miller Light. Darkest color light beer and the most flavor. I hate Bud and Bud Light; they are too sweet tasting. Coors is acceptable but has no flavor. My local store has a beer of the month and you get a sponsored glass with a 12 pack purchase. Most recent was Kona and before that Long Trail. The Kona was a variety tasting pack with Lager, Golden Ale, Pale Ale and IPA; I like that. I tend to buy themed beer like Pumpkin and Blueberry because the kids seem to like it better when they visit. I like IPA(Harpoon) and Stout(Guiness) better than most of the ales but when I'm out I drink something I haven't had; especially in places with a big selection and descriptions of each.
I used to love going to McSorly's ale house in NYC; they had a light ale and dark porter; 2 small mugs for 35 cents the first time I was there! About the only decent ale in the area was Ballentine IPA. They were sealed with bottle caps that had concentration puzzles so you could judge your level of sobriety

When it came to helping others(like me) find and work with rocks Don was a hell of a nice guy. His passing is a sadness to me.

Can you explain the difference noted in the space experiment...
"The cylinders’ accelerations match within two-trillionths of a percent."
That seems significant since it is a measurable difference.

I really liked the original and cant wait to see the sequel. I think Ryan Gosling is the new Blade Runner. He and Emma Stone were fantastic in La La Land. Blade Runner is an extremely moody movie. I thought it was too dark originally but over time have changed that opinion. Rutger Hauer was fantastic as he always is such as who else could play a halfway believable blind sword fighter. The first movie I saw him in was Spetters, a Dutch flick about race bikers. I watched it in Downtown Houston in the underground mall back in 1980 when I had some refinery design job. I bet that place had some flooding this year. What a shame. Houston is a city of boom and bust and I'll bet it has been booming the past few years.
I also like GOT. I watched parts of the first few seasons but none since then and sometimes not the whole episodes. But I am a reader and have read the books which are great but take more time than golf. George Martin has more wind in him than we do talking politics! Another author of the same genre is Joe Abercrombie. He has a couple of trilogies that are much better and interesting reads(IMHO) but I doubt would be better TV or movies (more action and character building and not much intimacy)

We are getting rocked by several days of wind and rain and it is inconvenient.
But of course nothing compared to the real intense effects have had on Texas and surrounding areas. And nothing compared to what Florida and surrounding areas suffered on the next hurricane. And nothing compared to what Caribbean islands have been pounded with more than once this year.
My heart goes out to all who have it so much worse than I can only imagine.

I have been frustrated with the mini Butane torches but admit to not devoting a lot of time to develop technique; they just don't seem to produce enough heat for metal pieces except thin sheet and wire or very low melting points.
I have never tried the plumbers torch with propane or MAP.
Is the heat output of MAP a factor that lets it work on larger pieces of metal; Is it the size of the flame with a plumbers torch? Is that setup safe to store in a heated basement?
