Hello everyone! I decided to list this here, as opposed to the "creations" section, as I didn't create it. LOL....although I did find the jade piece. So as some of you know, Highway 1 has been in a state of disrepair for several months, due to the rains and mudslide catastrophe. There is only one road that takes you to the "jade areas" of Big Sur, and from my area it's rather long an tedious. So basically I made it out there once since the road problems started. When I was there, I found only one piece that had fairly nice color, but it had a lot of cracks and problem spots. So I sent it off to my jade artisan that I use, and he was able to make an abstract version of a ginkgo leaf. The notch is right (or left, depending on perspective) of center, to correct the crack that was present.

So I haven't been out to Big Sur/Jade Cove, recently, due to the Highway 1 problems. I made it out there once since the catastrophe, but not in several months, as the alternative route isn't my cup-of-tea. LOL. ALTHOUGH, I did find this nice piece on eBay! (This piece was slathered in mineral oil to accentuate its colors)

Hello everyone. I haven't been on here for several months, as it has been REALLY busy at work. SOooooo, I perused eBay and found this object. I made somewhat of a calculated gamble, and purchased this piece for a decent price, with some negotiating. The seller's rating were long standing and outstanding. Unfortunately, zero information could be given on it's recovery location, possible age etc...due to it being from an estate sale. It's classification on the said page was rather generalized, but I will leave that out for the sake of analyzing the piece in an objective manner. So, can I make these assumptions?: 1)It was possibly organic as opposed to something that was "formed"' withing the confides within the earth. 2)it's now stone, due to the fact that it feels (for lack of better words) heavy and dense. 3)It's possibly fossilized since it APPEARS to have its minerals "replaced". 4)It's possibly "bone" due to the patterned structures that appears to be the remnants of cells. 5)It may have been part of a distal extremity as the shape isn't...symmetrical..? (Like a vertebra). It appears to have a anatomical joint. 6)It can be a dinosaur, or as young a 10,000 year old mammal??? Any input would be appreciated. :)Thanks! The reason I am asking these questions, is because my knowledge is VERY limited in terms of fossilization and fossils in general. Basically this was a buying gamble...albeit an inexpensive one.

Okay, lets try this again with slightly better pictures. EBay purchases at very reasonable prices. Very limited info. on the items though. Anyone have any ideas? So far "Montana Agate", from the other post.

coloradocliff and spiceman: Unfortunately, not a very glamorous history. Actually, it was one of those "do I really want to take a gamble on something like this on eBay...from China?" Well, it was definitely inexpensive coming from that region. The seller had 100% positive marks with multiple MULTIPLE sales. I bought it and had a local fossil and rock dealer take a look at it. Definitely Madagascar ammonite/ammolite. So the gamble payed off.

Unfortunately those rocks from the "Dolmen" wouldn't fit in my "checkout luggage" Ha! Yes, significantly cooler.
