About a quarter mile before you hit the creek, you will see some white bentonite flows on the right side of the road. If you do some digging near the top or search the area, you should find some nice agates.

Any ideas on the small belt? Seems redundant. It will turn both shafts, keeping the barrel from slipping. Not needed, but i highly prefer. I replaced one of mine with a large vacuum cleaner belt.

I got one just like it, I think it is a old Scott Murry or Lortone. I will try and dig mine out over break, there may still be a label on it.

Is the "Bambi" Jasper actually Fawn Skin Jasper? It looked like it to me... It is the same materiel, there was never enough mined to make it a large scale commercial product, so you get small scale miners who put there own name on it. Here are a few, tidgilites, bohmei, spotted fawn jasper, fawn stone, wormtrack rock, jakeatite, I am sure there are plenty more. I was up there a couple of months ago, the location I am aware of showed no sign's of the tight tube patterns, it will take a lot of hard rock mining to expose new materiel.

Beautiful sphere!! I have seen this material for sale under a couple of other names. I can add a few names to that list. From my understanding the ranch owner where the site is located are the Bohme family. I got the article below many years ago from a member here. It helps explain the Tidgillite or worm track names.

I tried to google fawn stone and came up with an actress. Then I saw a small ad for fawn jasper from AZ. Doesn't look the same at all. I hound by Globe and have no clue what it is. The Fawn Japser that google shows is from the same deposit where the sphere came from. There is ton of variation in this materiel, most people that try and collect for profit there are only after the ones with the tight small dots (Similar to palm root) and leave materiel the sphere was made from in the tailings. Long ago, a local was selling it as 'poor mans palm'.

There is a place in Tempe Az that make these blocks as well called RT Research . I am actually heading there tomorrow to discuss stabilizing and making blocks from some low grade Blue Bird Chrysocolla that I have had for years. He mentioned that it run's $30/pound to stabilize rock and takes about six weeks, I am not sure what the blocks will cost per pound yet.

Well, I wish he would get some up to date info out there because I want one. (unless he is the same guy who made those blue geode jigs) These are high quality well built clamps, I have a couple of them.

I got a 42#er I maybe able to get talked out of. I am not sure what market value is, since you rarely see rough for sale anymore. And I am not sure how you would ship it. There are some fractures, but it is such a large piece, they are easy to work around.

That is a pretty common agate to find in western NM, around the Apache Creek area.

Look into Teri Smith rock hunts. She use to do fall trips in the Alpine/Marfa area on the ranches out there. I highly recommend.
