Well, let me elaborate a little bit on perfect. I feel like these rocks didn’t come into existence, exist all this time just to have stoo-ped hoo-man (me) come along and fook em up. So I feel bad my first batch still has small fractures or things I could have gotten rid of if I had treated them with more respect/patience. Now these citrines and rose quartz’s, they are so juicy and gemmy with no internal fractures, I HAVE to do my best for them to reach max potential. Cause if they come out messed up it’s all on me and that will make me feel bad. I don't tumble, but I know from reading a gazillion tumbling posts from the experts on this board that there is a method to be followed, including making sure you have enough smalls, cushioning or ceramics in the barrel in the correct amount to prevent a lot of that from happening, or at least drastically reducing it. The most important thing I've learned is that you need a LOT of patience (which is why I don't tumble) to do it right. If you have to leave them in extra weeks in a stage to get them to the point that they are flawless enough to proceed to the next stage, then that's what you have to do. Don't be afraid to ask if you're unsure if you should move them on or if you need any other help. I won't be able to answer your questions, but I sure can be here to root you on! BTW, you can re-tumble your last batch to improve them if you wanted to. Just a thought.

Striving for perfection is never a bad thing. Even if you don't always achieve it, it's a honorable goal to have. Good luck on your tumble!

Stick it on the back burner. You're mad at it right now. Who knows, maybe some day an idea will just pop in your head and you'll know exactly how to finish it. I have quite a few of those on the back burner. Every once in a while, I'll get an inspiration and can finish one I didn't really like back when and it turns out to be something I like.

Tela, I really like it. It has a tribal feel to it. Consider fabricating a bail for it to hang from that takes up some of the excess space there.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I think it might be genius. ETA: Beware there are a few f bombs in there. Well, he sure spawned a few "therapist responds to" videos. It helps to know a little of his back story. He was bitten by a tick and got Lyme's disease that went misdiagnosed for quite a while. During that period doctors treated him with drugs that totally messed him up, including inducing psychotic events and giving him autoimmune deficiency. That's what he's referring to. He's now in Canada receiving treatment for the Lyme's disease which included stem cell treatment that got him back up on his feet. He's a very talented young man. Started out busking on the streets. Check his YouTube page @renmakesmusic for a video of him busking I Shot the Sheriff. It was really good. Also, I just watched a 2 hour interview with him on @black Pegasus which was amazingly good. I took a couple of breaks (yeah, it's long), but I came away from it with even more respect for him. He is thoughtful and intelligent and I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him in the future. ETA: He did this as a one take - no editing. He has a little mike clipped on and his guitar is plugged in. He did it 3 times and they picked this one to publish.

Steve Lawrence 1935 – 2024 How sad. ,RIP, Steve Lawrence. I actually saw Sinatra and Steve and Eydie at Poplar Creek back when. A group of us went. We rented a limo for the evening and Frank was in fine voice that night.

Peta, exactly how big is that rough? It's kind of hard to ascertain from the picture because it's so big. opalpyrexia gave you good advice as did Rockoonz. I would start with the 600 and drop down to the 220 if the ironstone matrix is harder than you think it might be. The hardness of ironstone can really differ. Usually the more yellow it is, the softer and more porous it is, but it looks like the yellow on yours may be just a rind in places. I'm seeing what I think is brown under it, but it's really hard to tell. The opal cutter's mantra is: Cut a little, look a lot. Rules to live by when you're cutting any type of opal with fire. Go slow, look a lot and you will be fine. It's really not as scary as everyone says (unless it's a black opal that you can't see in to at all - then all bets are off and you need to wear depends when cutting).
