Nice Christmas present MsAli ! Are those going to go in the "do not touch" pile, or are you going to work them at some point? NDK - Nate, way to set the "present buying bar" so high for the rest of us trying to find presents for our wives! Jerk! LOL A few will be made into pieces for me. I already set aside a ring, necklace and earrings set The rest we will finish and sell

Pat from someone that does ice fish and has in -40 (we didn't stay long) you NEED wool socks and room in your boots. Not squished in there. Air actually helps create a insulation layer. Also, good cold rated boots help
Edited to say. I just bought myself a pair of Steger's Mukluks. They are made up in Ely. She has a really cool blog that explains the history of them. I got a pair rated for -40

Thanks! Looks like a great beach to visit. Plan to spend hours there! Then when you want a break, go to Luigis in Cambria for some good food.

Hornitos is a cool little town. An old gold mining place about in the foothills about 45 minutes from me. It's miles away from Morgan Hill in just about every way imaginable. In 2020 the population was 38! I loved that little town. My daughter's boyfriends step mom worked at a little bakery up there.

I didn't know there was Hornitos CA. When I think Hornitos, I think Morgan Hill. It is interesting that there is a lot of different material with the same name. Two different places and two different rocks. Hornitos is pretty hard to find

I could be wrong and it's a young female bald as they are quite larger than the males, but there was an adult bald in the same field and this one was way bigger

We had Golden Eagles in Montana. I saw several when I lived there. The bald eagles are definitely smaller. I also had an interesting experience with a snowy owl when I first moved up to Montana. I got a wild hair in early spring to go to Crystal Park. It was way to early and the area wasn't open yet, guess I should have checked that before I drove 3 hours to get there but I was so excited to go that I didn't even think about that, silly me. There was still some snow on the ground, but I was determined to at least look around for crystals, so I parked and got out to wander around. As I was walking, I heard this sound I'd never heard, kinda like a whoosh noise, and then out of the corner of my eye, I saw a huge white bird swooping down towards me. I ducked just in time as the enormous snowy owl flew right over my head. Scared the living crap out of me. I ran back to my truck, slipping and sliding on the snow. It was probably quite the show, so fortunately, no one was around to see it. I was glad I had left my dog in the truck because she was small enough to make a good meal for that huge owl. Needless to say, I didn't find any crystals, and I didn't stick around after the encounter. Man, that owl came out of nowhere and was so quiet it was amazing. I think all I heard was the wind from its wings as it flew over me, and then it disappeared into the woods again. I did get a real close look at that massive and beautiful owl but didn't fully appreciate it until I was back in my truck, and my heart started beating more regularly..lol. An don't even get me started about the snowshoe hare that ran out of a bush and scared the hell out of me on another springtime rock trip. Geez, those bunnies are huge with even bigger feet. 😳 Wish I had pictures to prove they were real but frankly I was too busy running for the truck to take photos. Now that would of been a sight
