Hi all, I picked this rock in Scotland along a stream. I tumbled it in a rotary tumbler. It is about 1.5inch diameter, and fairly flat (0.25inch at its thickest... would make a perfect skipping rock :-) ) One side got a really nice shine on it, while the other has lots of ridges with lots of sparkly bits in the ridges. The photos don't do justice to the amount of sparkle. I am wondering what it is. I believe the main rock is some type of chalcedony or maybe some type of Jasper?. Is the sparkly stuff pyrite?

Only thing I can say is, skip it on the smooth side. If you do it in the ocean, see if you can skip it to New York!

It looks like a granite gniess. The back side has a high concentration of mica and that does not polish, it just comes apart.

I second mmf’s ID. Interesting stone and self collected are my favorites.
