I've had some good luck playing with fire lately and thought I'd share. Thanks for looking!

That's sooo cool. The shine is great and the rainbows are mind boggling. Pardon the ignorance but this is rainbow obsidian or something else? Any particular kind? Love it.

I'm with you on that top one, I don't hang on to too many of them but that first one went straight to my personal collection

Are those domes or quartz caps. Also if you could point me toward a tutorial for bringing out such color ide love to read it. I don't own any material but the procedure looks like something I should know. I appreciate your abilities marvelous.

That's the stone's own glass down to about 1-2mm thickness on top of the fire layer. I guess there's a bit of a dome, but the stones look like flat tops. There aren't any tutorials that I know of, sorry. It has some similarities to fire agate in that the fire layer is microscopically thin and you can grind right through it and wipe it from existence. Think of the fire magnetite, which is what causes the color, as a ribbon or sheet of paper thinner than a human hair that has been encased in glass. You just have to get right on top of it to expose it all, but it's rarely a flat ribbon so you have to contend with little hills and valleys. It's like a contour polish, but you have to move with the flow of the layer and/or strategically clear material to direct light where you want it to shine. Piece of cake, right?

There are a lot of videos on YouTube of people cutting and polishing Fire Obsidian.

Gorgeous! If agatewhisperer hadn't asked I was going to - I've always avoided obsidian and I'm aghast that I never knew about this beautiful stuff.
Is it prone to the fire disappearing like opal or is the fire layer easier to find and keep?

Makes me want to spend more time going through my bucket of fire and finally start cutting some cabs.

Cutting for the best flash is a different story however, especially when the layers are wavy like lasagna noodles

Tommy, I have the opposite super power which I developed with my Mom, the ability to be doing everything but listening to the conversation and be able to respond. It infuriates my wife!!
