This post is more about the genie water modification then it is about the cabs. For the last 10 years I have used this Genie with version (1) modifications. I had aquarium tubing and aquarium gang valves. That worked pretty good as long as I was using it all the time but lately I can go months without cabbing and that system would get blocked up due to the tiny diameters involved. This new Version (2) is all 1/4" tubing and the flow is anywhere from wet to have to change your clothes when your done. The valves do not take any effort to turn and the water can be adjusted to perfect easily. This is a big help with soft stones where the ground off material coats the stones as your cabbing if the water can't keep up. Now I can turn up the volume and clearly see what I am doing even on the softest stuff. I have always cabbed with gravity feed and the same reservoir feeds my 2 wheel 8" sintered station. 60 grit sintered wheels really require a healthy flow of water. Thanks for looking Chuck

Nice set up. Extra nice cabs.

The separate water controls was a selling point to me on my KN cabber.
Do you have any kind of felt pads to spread out the water & control splashing off the wheels ?
Or is it not needed coming in at the top of wheel ??
Sweet Cabs - what is the gray - ocean jasper ?

This is similar to the route I’m going to go. My geysers constantly clog up and I’m getting tired of it.

Chuck, very nice setup. I especially like using the plastic fittings as the metal ones I have on my old setup are badly gunked up with corrosion and hard water buildup.
What do you use for the reservoir? a big bucket?

To be fair the water system on the genie is the only item that others do better at so I never even used mine with the geyser I modded it as soon as I got. This way I ended up with the Baldor brand motor, diamond pacific nova wheels and a fully adjustable rate drip feed. Kind of like combining all the best features from several machines. When I was using aquarium tubing I did have a fitting right above the wheels to spread the water across. This new system does not seem to need it. If I did need that I would hang felt strips onto the wheels to spread it.

What do you use for the reservoir? a big bucket? Henry Yeah I still have two remaining metal valves on the sintered wheel arbor and they can be a real pain. I just use a one gallon paint can. It is shown in the photo. I do not cab enough to need any more then that. I can usually get through 7-10 cabs with that. I also do not do drain holes in my pans. I either go dump them and wash them out or I use a sponge and bucket to clear them. I find slowing things down a bit like filling the can and emptying the trays keeps me from rushing things.

I knew what I wanted and had parts in hand to do the first mod before my genie even arrived. I had used a genie at a local rock club and the geysers were a pain and I do not like the idea of spraying recirculated dirty water onto the wheels. Chuck

There are two worlds; geysers and drip. Drip is the heavy favorite. The Genie system has two issues, pump maintenance and plugged geysers. I don't use the Genie system. I use other geysers and an aquarium pump.
One of the big advantages of a Genie is the spinoff right side adaptor and with an extra adaptor and spacers there a lot of possible configurations. For example, two wider wheels instead of the three standard. With geysers, they can be moved underneath the wheels and with drip things are set.
Drip is more popular than Geysers for manufacturers because there is no need for a pump and consumers have a deep seated fear of using recirculated water, I am one of the oddballs who prefers geysers.

Nice modification, my spitters still work but if/when they fail I think your design will become mine. Only difference is I will be running a hard line for the water supply since the lines are already nearby. Still debating if I will go with a pressure regulator or just have a float valve in an overhead water tank and use gravity feed. Since I have the cabmate with the 80 waffle wheel to shape first with fresh water, my Genie trays don't get dirty so fast. I have only had a geyser get sluggish once, and a few hours in some vinegar with a compressed air back flush took care of that quickly. realrockhound are you taking out the painted screws and oiling your pump regularly? If it drys out it can pump less volume. How did you tap the Genie trays for your drains? I see that as the biggest challenge, how to have them drain without plugging up or leaking and still be pretty easy to pull and clean when they get cruddy.

I checked it not too long back and it looked good. But after you mentioning that, I bet it could use some oil.

Chuck, that's a fantastic modification! As always, your cabs are off the charts!
It scares me a little to think how much "better" they're going to be now that you'll be able to SEE what you're working on...versus the cabs you've been "blindly" making! LOL

Great modification and to your exacting standards, I see. You never do anything half baked.
Is the frame that the water lines are on freestanding behind the genie?
Beautiful cabs! I have a fondness for the black fossil stone- whose name I have forgotten.

The gray is Petoskey Stone I believe. I’d like to know the black, some sort of palm wood or coral fossil? Very nice cabs.

Thank you. It is free standing. It is sturdy enough on its own to not move around when adjusting valves. I intended to mount it to the base but might like the ease of moving that unit and the hood off all at once. The black fossil is Caldopora. khara - Yes the gray is Petoskey
