liveoak Here’s that doublet from twelve fourteen years ago, Patty. Still looks exactly the same. I glued a 2 mm slice of basenite on the back, but that was too thick and clunky, so I ground and lapped it down to just under 1/64”. Before doming:

Thank you parfive - crazy glue it is for the future. Sounds easier anyway, so I'm sold.
Nice doublet BTW

Nice cab. The only doublets I made were done over 10 years ago. Maybe even around when this one was made. I actually can’t remember the process. What is typically used instead of super glue? I also did ones where there was a clear cap of glass(?) rather than a dark back.

The crazy glue certainly sounds easier .
SO, I got thinking about it though, crazy glue sets up pretty fast- so parfive, did you use anything fancy or just work quickly ?

Thinking further, parfive seeing as you said it was 12-14 years ago,
likely they didn't have the fancy slow setting crazy (CA) glue back then, so I'm going to say you just worked fast
Answered my own question !
Thanks again for the tip Patty

realrockhound Graveyard Point. I think I got it in one the early, if not the first, travelling rock boxes. liveoak It’s no different than any glue-up job, Patty. You have everything ready to go before you pop the cap – clamps, weight, whatever.

Bubbles in epoxy for doublets can be easily removed just prior to assembling. After applying the thin layer of mixed epoxy to the backing material, make a few passes across the epoxy with a handheld butane torch. You'll see the bubbles expand and disappear.

Actually Gary that's exactly what I did - the second time- although I used a heat gun & it worked perfectly.
I actually found an old post on doublets & YOU ( thank you BTW) posted that suggestion as well as to twist the stones together to I guess squish the excess epoxy out.
It worked great.
Thank you,
Patty
